When they both appeared Dec. 14 in the Brett Dixon Memorial Duals at Central Square, the Cazenovia and Chittenango wrestling teams would go head-to-head.

Following a 24-hour weather postponement, the Lakers faced Port Byron on Thursday and, by having close to a full roster, earned enough points to top the Panthers 51-28.
Port Byron did win four of the seven contested bouts, and also got close at 106 pounds before Zampetti pulled out a 6-4 decision over Henry Smith. Matt Knutsen won at 132 pounds by pinning Ronald Jones in 77 seconds, and in that exact same time Dannon got a pin over Gillespei Hunter.
Mostly, the Lakers benefited from forfeits to Polhamus, Valentine (182), Luke Rodriguez (113 pounds), Michael Angus (126 pounds), Brad Gagnon (152 pounds) and Jake Tobin (170 pounds).
Chittenango, who lost Dec. 14 to Cazenovia in the Dixon Duals, was unable to get on the scoreboard in its Dec. 19 meet against Marcellus. In the 86-0 defeat, Spencer got closest to a win, but fell 8-5 to the Mustangs’ Kyle Brown.
The Bears join the Lakers next weekend as they travel to SUNY-Oswego next Friday and Saturday for the Kenneth Haines Memorial Tournament.
