Through morning and afternoon sessions, all of the area’s indoor track and field teams would be quite busy vying for top spots during the Dec. 14 Oscar B. Jensen Holiday Relays at SRC Arena.
During the afternoon session, Skaneateles had state Class C boys cross country champion Caleb Bender prevail in the boys 3,200-meter run in a time of nine minutes, 43.25 seconds, just ahead of Baldwinsville’s Jack Michaels (9:46.36) as Matt Persampieri was fourth in 10:26.38.
Back at the Jack Morse Kickoff Meet a week earlier, the Lakers’ Emme Conan broke the school record in the girls 55-meter dash.
Here, Conan went 7.50 seconds, trailing only Syracuse ITC’s Fannie Kumeh (7.42), and then was second in the 300-meter dash in 43.56 seconds to the 42.69 from ITC’s Karzima Brathwaite.
Tess Peterson was victorious in the long jump, going 15 feet 6 inches after taking fourth in the high jump and triple jump as Eva Vitsaxaki gained fifth place with 13’10 1/2”.
Sharla Dart’s throw of 29’1 1/2” beat everyone in the shot put, while Reagan Evans, 11th in that event, had a top weight throw of 31’1” that put her in second place.
Sarah Tallerico gave the Lakers a second-place time of 3:15.20 in the 1,000-meter run, just behind South Jefferson’s Karsyn Burnash (3:14.89).
Marcellus had Ryan White finish third in the 300 in 39.28 seconds, two spots ahead of Skaneateles’ Emil Sander (39.47), who was fifth in the high jump, clearing 5’6”, and seventh in the long jump.
Kevin Donath took fourth place in the 600 in 1:34.78, with Skaneateles’ Tony DiRubbo fifth in 1:35.01. Peter McCaffrey went 37’5 1/2” in the triple jump for fifth place.
Jonah Kwasnowski got sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.73 seconds as Ian Potter was sixth in the long jump and Kevin Huss finished seventh in the mile.
The Marcellus girls had Anella Bolster run the 3,000 in 12:09.01 for third place, while Sophia Shaw, clearing 5 feet, finished third in the high jump.
Delaney Manahan was fourth in the 300 in 48.13 seconds and Ava Aupperle (48.83) got sixth, with Brielle McShane fifth in the 600. Elle Mahoney got fourth place in the shot put with 25’2 1/4”.
West Genesee saw Matt Bartolotta run the mile in 4:46.40 to finish third. Peter McMahon was fifth in the 1,000-meter run in 2:53.56. Evan Fairchild had an eighth-place shot put toss of 33’10 1/2” as Skaneateles’ Ben Euto (33’8”) was ninth.
For the WG girls, Abby Kuppinger took second place in the 600 in 1:43.53 and Natalie Buckhout was second in the mile in 5:42.84 ahead of Faith Knox in fourth place.
Caitlin Mills was fifth in the 55 sprint (7.79 seconds) as Sandy Gardino finished eighth. Rachel Reynolds and Olivia Baker were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 55 hurdles.
Earlier, in the morning session, Westhill and Jordan-Elbridge took part, as did Solvay as Justice Shirley earned a fourth-place high jump of 5’10”.
Westhill’s Mike Ferrara got a second-place clocking of 2:48.90, just behind Nottingham’s Declan Shaughnessy (2:48.53) in the 1,000, where J-E’s Kenny Williams was fifth. Ben Helfeld had a second-place weight throw of 44’9”.
Jacob Fricano’s 4:48.22 in the mile put him in third place, the Eagles’ Sean Dristle seventh. Brian Kenny went 1:33.28 in the 600 for fourth place.
Zach Barber led J-E, his 40-foot triple jump just behind Nottingham’s Evariste Maniragaba (40’1 1/2”) as Barber also gave J-E a fourth-place long jump of 18’1 1/4”. Derek Quigley was fourth in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet.
For the Westhill girls, Angie Mesa-Espinosa earned second in the 55 sprint in 7.71 seconds and took runner-up honors in the 300 in 43′.87 seconds.
Ashley Heffernan cleared 9’6” in the pole vault, also finishing second as Solvay’s Erica Bagozzi topped 7’6” for fifth place. Ryan Murphy was sixth in both the shot put and discus.
With a triple jump of 33′ 3/4”, the Warriors’ Ashley Bolesh got second place. J-E’s Vassianna Klock was fifth in the 300, but improved to third in the mile in 5:42.04, ahead of Coral Uhle in fifth place.
Kate Bendall finished fifth in the high jump,while Kennedy Rose was fifth in the 600 and Addie Lowery seventh.
