There was a 12-day gap between the Liverpool boys swim team’s opening win over Cicero-North Syracuse and a big showdown with undefeated (3-0) Baldwinsville on Tuesday night.
In the meantime, C-NS resumed its schedule last Friday, hosting Fayetteville-Manlius at Le Moyne College and not quite able to catch up to the Hornets in a 96-87 defeat.
Seaver Schultz did all he could for the Northstars’ cause. Initiating a sprint sweep, Schultz went 22.89 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle to get away from F-M’s Lucas Wieres (23.76) as John Harbaugh (24.83) was third.
Then, in the 100 freestyle, Schultz, in 51.46 seconds, just beat out Wieres (51.86) again, with Logan Petralia (52.46) in third place. To cap off his day, Schultz, joined by Petralia, Harbaugh and Connor Burke, gained first place in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:35.81.
Petralia had C-NS’s lone other individual title, going 1:56.37 in the 200 freestyle to hold off the Hornets’ Quinn Smith (1:57.87). In the 400 freestyle relay, Petralia, Schultz, Dillon Johnson and Sawyer Powell won in 3:35.59.
A close 100 butterfly had Harbaugh, in 59.55 seconds, just behind the 59.18 from Jason Porter. Powell was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:59.65 as Johnson was runner-up in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.54 and Burke went 1:14.63 to get second place in the 100 breaststroke.
C-NS swims twice more this week, battling Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA and Oswego. Liverpool, after the trip to B’ville, goes to Fulton on Friday.
