It hasn’t taken long for the Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA boys swim team to run into some of the best competition in Central New York.
The Red Rams’ season opener against visiting Baldwinsville last Thursday night involved plenty of good efforts, yet it still took a 98-85 defeat to the Bees.
Nate Wales won a pair of individual races for J-D/CBA, going five minutes, 24.62 seconds to edge B’ville’s Tristan Miranda (5:25.27) in a close 500-yard freestyle.
This came after Wales, in 2:00.29, held off the Bees’ Nate Durkin (2:01.61) and John Burns (2:01.85) in the 200 freestyle, while Lucas Dekaney won the diving competition with 249.95 points.
J-D/CBA also had its 200 freestyle relay team of Nathan Chen, Conlan Rourke, Ryan Brazell and Lucas Holmquist earn a victory in 1:40.65, ahead of B’ville’s 1:42.53.
Chen, on his own, was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.45 and also got second place in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.69.
Rourke went 23.79 seconds in the 50 freestyle, just behind B’ville’s Bailey Ludden (23.65), and in 52.97 seconds again was runner-up to Ludden (52.20) in the 100 freestyle. Rourke, Chen, Colby Porter and Bobby Diel were second in the 200 medley relay in 1:51.76.
J-D/CBA hosts New Hartford this Friday as Fayetteville-Manlius opens its season Tuesday at Fulton before taking on Cicero-North Syracuse Friday night at Le Moyne College.
