Even though the biggest prize still lies ahead, the Liverpool girls track and field team has won everything so far, including a clean sweep of Salt City Athletic Conference Empire division honors.
Already with a regular-season title in hand, the Warriors added the league championship crown Thursday at LHS Stadium, earning 185 points to top runner-up Fayetteville-Manlius, who had 144 points.
Again, Liverpool was dominant in field events, whether it was Marissa Baskin unleashing a long jump of 18 feet 5 ¾ inches, more than two feet ahead of any rival, or Amina Sinclair clearing 5’6” in the high jump, half a foot ahead of the field.
Imahni Sinclar threw the shot put 34’10 ½” in a 1-2 finish with Madyson Oliveri (28’3”) as Baskin added a second title in the triple jump, going 36’ ½”. And in the pentathlon, no one could catch Liverpool sophomore Lauren Fradette, who earned 2,479 points, 268 points ahead of F-M’s Katie Berge’.
Wasting no time on the track, Liverpool got a big win in the 4×800 relay when Windsor Ardner, Sydney Carlson, Claire Carlson and Madison Neuner went nine minutes, 41.39 seconds to beat F-M’s 9:52.54.
Later, in the 4×100 relay, the Warriors prevailed again as Baskin, Anne Gullo, Haven Hicks and Riley Norris went 49.66 seconds as no one else broke the 51-second mark. Gullo was third in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.51.
Neuner finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:24.49 and also was second in the 3,000-meter run in 10:18.58, while Sydney Carlson was fourth (10:55.90).
Emily Neuner got second place in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:37.51, with Rosie Petrella fourth (7:55.82) as Ardner was third in the 1,500-meter run in 4:58.11, with Gabby McCarthy fifth in 5:03.63. Alexia Ostrander was fifth in the high jump.
Cicero-North Syracuse was third with 122 points, led by Brooke Blaisdell, who in the 100-meter hurdles went 16.13 seconds to hold off Liverpool’s Kali Hayes (16.26) as Savannah Kuhr finished third in 16.44 seconds.
Blaisdell’s long jump of 16’3 ½” left her second behind Baskin, with Sierra Davis third by going 15’11 ¾” as Davis improved to second place in the triple jump with 35’3 ¾”.
Hannah Boyle went 1:00.34 to finish second in the 400 sprint, while Sarah Davis was third (2:27.06) and Abbee Norris fifth (2:31.61) in the 800. Boyle, Davis, McKenna Slate and Jamie Wagner were second (4:11.80) to F-M (4:05.84) in the 4×400 relay, ahead of Liverpool (4:19.77) in fourth place.
Liliana Klemanski was second and Lilly Capria third in the high jump, each only able to clear 5 feet. Stephanie Webb had a third-place shot put toss of 27’9” as Klemanski got fourth place (33’1 ¾”) in the triple jump.
Lexi Gaetz finished fourth in the pentathlon, while Allison Newton was fourth in the 1,500 in 4:59.95and fifth in the 3,000 as the Northstars took third place in the 4×800 in 10:11.54. Wagner finished sixth in the 400 sprint and Maria Marullo was sixth in the 3,000.
Baldwinsville finished fourth with 83 points, but won several events, two of them by Karen Ekure, who in the 100-meter dash needed 12.67 seconds to edge Baskin (12.69) by two-hundredths of a second, with Hicks third (12.83) and Lauren Addario fourth for the Bees in 13.04 seconds.
In the 200-meter dash, Ekure went 25.84 seconds to hold off Hicks (26.19), with Gullo fourth in 27.28 seconds. Ekure, Courtney Clute, Courtney Bostic and Allyson Surowick were second to Liverpool in the 4×100 in 51.03 seconds, with C-NS in fifth place.
Another win came from Justus Holden-Betts, who needed 1:06.40 to edge F-M’s Fiona Mejico (1:06.75) and take the 400 hurdles, with Hayes third in 1:08.16 and Kuhr (1:10.05) in fourth place.
Finally, Jenna Wallace gained first place in the discus, her throw of 103’3” beating out a strong field that included Imahni Sinclair, who was second with 84’8” as Webb (80’10”) was third for the Northstars. Wallace threw the shot put 26’11” to finish fourth.
In the pole vault, Ella Smith cleared 8 feet and finished second, with Kyra Sattler fourth (7’6”) and Liverpool’s Sophia Recuparo taking third place, with C-NS’s Kaley Bristow fifth and Liverpool’s Amelia Loop sixth.
Surowick was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 17.42 seconds and fifth in the long jump with 15’10”, while Vivian Holden-Betts was fifth in the steeplechase. Taite Archer was fifth in the pentathlon and the Bees were fifth in the 4×800 and 4×400.
B’ville and Liverpool will make their way to C-NS’s Bragman Stadium this Wednesday for the Section III Class AA championships.
