Twice this spring, the Baldwinsville boys lacrosse team found itself on the wrong end of decisions against Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division foes, but has managed to avenge both of those defeats.
First, the Bees did so against Fayetteville-Manlius in April. Then, in last Thursday’s game at Liverpool, B’ville prevailed 12-8 to get even with the Warriors for a home defeat to them a few weeks earlier.
That April 16 game had ended up 13-12 in Liverpool’s favor, with B’ville rallying from an 8-5 halftime deficit to lead at the end of the third quarter, only to have the Warriors outscore them 3-1 down the stretch to pull it out.
The rematch would not have the Bees fall behind again. With its attack in top form, B’ville raced out to a 6-3 edge by the time the first quarter was done, and the margin grew to 8-4 by halftime.
For the rest of the game, the Warriors found itself in a chase where it didn’t let the Bees move away from them, yet could not string together the run it needed to make things tense late.
Spencer Wirtheim augmented his pair of goals with five assists, leading a well-balanced B’ville attack. Brendan Wilcox got three goals, with Austin Bolton, Mike Tangredi and Adam Davis getting two goals apiece. Connor Steria had the other goal.
Dan Stehle made 11 saves, frustrating the Warriors, who had Jake McGowan land five assists as Kyle Caves got three goals and two assists. Brendan Mancuso had two goals as Devin Dewane and Cade Clouthier also scored, Liam O’Neil finishing with 15 saves.
Before this, B’ville had handled Syracuse City 20-6 last Tuesday night, almost of the damage done during a stunning second quarter where the Bees buried the Cougars with 11 unanswered goals.
Wirtheim dished out six assists to go with scoring twice. Davis and Noah Ravas each had three goals and two assists, with Bolton getting three goals and one assist.
Wilcox Tangredi and Casey Scott notched two goals apiece, with Steria, Jake Walsh, Connor Steria and Cameron Slink netting single goals.
Starting with Cicero-North Syracuse and West Genesee, B’ville plays four times in seven days to close out the regular season, also meeting Webster Thomas on Saturday and Vestal on May 13.
