On a single Wednesday afternoon, track and field teams from Skaneateles and Jordan-Elbridge met face-to-face, while Marcellus hada a meet against Solvay.
Skaneateles and J-E spilt, with the girls Lakers prevailing 94-47, but the boys Eagles finishing in front 73-64.
Emme Conan led the Skaneateles girls, claiming the 100-meter dash in 13.5 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 28.4 seconds as she also helped the Lakers take the 4×100 relay in 53.8 seconds. Georgia McSwain was first in the 3,000-meter run in 12:41.4.
Graeson Landsberg , who won the 400 hurdles in 1:13.4, had a top triple jump of 30 feet 11 ½ inches, with Sophia Casler going 14’5 ½” in the long jump as Sharia Dart (shot put, 28’7 ½”) and Reagan Evans (discus, 69’8”) swept the throwing events.
On J-E’s side, Coral Uhle won the 800-meter run in 2:38 flat, with Vassianna Klock going 5:19.2 to take the 1,500-meter run as they both ran legs for the Eagles in the 4×400 (4:33.0). Mia DeLap won the 100 hurdles as Kyra White cleared 8 feet to win the pole vault.
When Marcellus took on Solvay, the boys meet proved a close one, but the Mustangs held off the Bearcats 73-68, helped by finishing first in four of six field events.
Kevin Huss cleared 9’6” in the pole vault as Gabe Hoag had a top triple jump of 34’9”. Kyle Brown threw the shot put 39’8” and Dan Balman had a first-place discus toss of 97’8”.
On the track, the Mustangs featured Nick Roseboom taking the 3,200-meter run in 11:08 flat as Carl Santiarello went 5:38.4 in the mile. Mason Grieb added a victory in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.3 and Jonah Kwasnowski ran the 110 hurdles in 18.10 seconds.
Marcellus also won 82-59 over Solvay in the girls meet, with the Mustangs’ Delaney Manahan sweeping the 100 (13.1 seconds), 200 (27.3 seconds) and 400 (1:03.0) sprints, with Brielle McShane winning the 800 and 1,500.
Elsewhere for the Mustangs, Macie Szalach cleared 9 feet in the pole vault, with Sophia Shaw (triple jump) and Meaghan Strempel (3,000) also victorious. Solvay had Kyra Crossett clear 4’10” in the high jump and take the 100 hurdles in 18.4 seconds, with Sabrina Garnett winning the discus with 84’3” and Rhiannon Ackerman going 15’1” in the long jump.
West Genesee found itself battling both Fayetteville-Manlius and Baldwinsville in a three-team meet on the Hornets’ home track, and the boys Wildcats nearly gained a split, but lost 67-63 to the Hornets to go with a 96-54 defeat to the Bees.
Still, WG swept the sprints, Esisas Brumfield going 11.6 seconds in the 100 and 26.8 seconds in the 200 while pairing with Dan Gill, Patrick Perris and Hopetan Wellington to win the 4×100 in 44.76 seconds.
Wellington got a victory of his own in the high jump, the only competitor to clear 5’10”, while Kyle Collins was first in the 110 hurdles, posting 16.11 seconds.
The girls Wildcats had Abby Kuppinger beat the field in the 400 sprint in 1:02.68, with Olivia Becker victorious in the 100 hurdles in 17.87 seconds. Caitlin Mills, Sandy Gardino, Natalie Kelling and Phoebe Anderson were first in the 4×100 relay in 52.26 seconds.
A day earlier, Westhill swept Mexico, topping the Tigers 83-36 on the boys side and 77-39 on the girls side as both sets of Warriors stayed undefeated.
The Westhill girls had Katherine Evans prevail in the 400 sprint (1:07 flat) and 400 hurdles (1:19.3), Evans also helping Ashley Heffernan, Angie Mesa and Erica Gangemi take the 4×100 relay in 53.5 seconds.
Heffernan was first in the 100 hurdles (16.1 seconds), with Mesa taking the 200 in 27.5 seconds and Gangemi edging Lauren Bendall, 14.0 seconds to 14.1, in the 100 sprint.
Bendall did win the 800, with Liz Kessler victorious in the 1,500. Madison Scheirer cleared 4’8” in the high jump as Lennah Abraham threw the discus 98’7” and Lauren Marshall won the triple jump with 30’4”. Brooke Zollo finished first in the long jump.
The boys meet included Tom Howard’s sweep of the 100 (11.7 seconds) and 200 (24.1 seconds) sprints, with Will Thornton claiming the 800 in 2:15.1 and the mile in 4:59.4 over Jacob Roberts (5:01.9).
Elsewhere, Elliot Rouse cleared 5’4” in the high jump and tied Mexico’s John Sciarabba with a long jump of 18’5”. Luke Kelly went 18.2 seconds in the 110 hurdles as Will Remillard won the 400 hurdles in 1:05 flat.
