With a series of league wins, the Jamesville-DeWitt boys tennis team made its way to the top of the SCAC Empire division standings.
Having already swept Oswego 7-0, the Red Rams did the same in last Monday’s match against Fulton, the 7-0 decision featuring Peter Hatton shutting out Eric Shear 6-0, 6-0 as William Guisbond handled Kyle Hotaling 6-0, 6-1 and Mark Bratslavsky won, 6-3, 6-2, over Collin Bennett.
Between them, J-D’s doubles teams of Essex Glowaki-Dhruv Nanavati, Mike Bratslavsky-Aniket Maini, Sam Fechtner-Ben Oppedisano and William Parratt-Wes Sharlow dropped just one game in their eight combined sets.
Against Oswego, Sharlow and Parratt needed to rally and survive a third-set tie-breaker to beat Josh Demott and Sebastian Foti 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), with Oppedsiano and Simon Zhou also coming from behind in a 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 win over Matt Hibbert and John Alejandro.
The teams of Glowaki-Nanavati and Bratslavsky-Maini each won in two sets, while in singles Hatton blanked Lucas Shepardson 6-0, 6-0 as Guisbond fought past Sasha Loayza 7-6, 6-4 and Mark Bratslavsky handled Jacob Lenehan 6-0, 7-6 (7-2).
J-D’s win streak continued Wednesday, but it was far closer as the Rams held off Central Square 4-3, with the doubles teams of Maini-Mike Brastlavsky, Parratt-Sharlow and Fechtner-Oppedisano each dropping three-set decisions.
When the Rams did win, though, it was decisive. Hatton blanked Lukas Capstraw 6-0, 6-0, with Glowaki topping Austin Grosso by those same scores. Usher beat Michael Haywood 6-4, 7-5 as, in doubles, Guisbond and Mark Bratslavsky got a 6-3, 7-5 win over Kevin Kershner and Jared Smith.
Still undefeated, Christian Brothers Academy clinched its match against Mexico before the rains hit late on Tuesday afternoon, the Brothers blanking the Tigers 3-0.
Dean Vlassis got pushed in the second set by Joe Ocker, but still won 6-0, 7-5 as Ben Vlassis got a 6-3, 6-1 win over Neil Deloch. The third point arrived when Shivam Nanavati topped Evan Blunt 6-1, 6-2.
In Wednesday’s 5-0 romp over Marcellus, Dean and Ben Vlassi each won identical 6-0, 6-2 matches over, respectively, Andrew Kammer and Tyler Guerrina, with Nanavati blanking Chris Barbaro 6-0, 6-0. The doubles teams of Ayo Oguntola-Matt Potenza and Hunter Burton-Matt Lewis lost just two total games in four sets.
