Perhaps it was not the dream scenario the Baldwinsville boys bowling team envisioned before going to Utica’s Pin-O-Rama for Sunday’s Section III championships – but it wasn’t too bad, either.
The Bees, without Tanner Rozycko in the lineup, finished fourth among Class A sides, and seventh in Division I (large schools), with a total pinfall of 5,651, missing out the epic battle at the top of the standings.
Liverpool led most of the way, but had to hang on late as, with 6,198, it held off Utica Proctor (6,178) to claim the team title and a berth in next month’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association tournament at Strike-N-Spare Lanes.
Individually, Luke Marketta had B’ville’s best performance. Helped by a 255 in the first game of the afternoon session, Marketta, whose other best game was a 205, finished 22nd with 1,196.
Then Dylan Love earned 23rd place for the Bees with a series that churned along with average scores until he finished with a 242 to move up the standings and finish at 1,177, 19 pins behind Marketta.
Dylan Williams finished with games of 212 and 216 during his 1,151 set that put him in 33rd place, while Dave Hildreth bowled five games that included 203 and 202 on his way to a 903 total. Eric Hildreth had a 211 game and 756 for four games. Dawson Bigtree shot a 173 and 468 for three games.
It was Liverpool’s Brandon Davis and East Syracuse Minoa’s Sean Timmons tying for the individual title, each with a pinfall of 1,389, just 10 pins ahead of Proctor’s Nick Gentile. Fulton’s Anthony DeMasi and Proctor’s Christian Stoddard tied for the top game of 279.
B’ville individuals would take part in the boys and girls sectional shootout Thursday at 3 p.m. at King Pin Lanes in Rome.
