Having absorbed twin defeats to rival Cicero-North Syracuse on Jan. 10, each of the Liverpool bowling teams required a quick response – and got it.
In last Monday’s match at Green Lakes Bowl, the Warriors took out Fayetteville-Manlius, the girls 3-0 win including a tremendous game from Makenzi Ormsby as she shot a 253 on her way to a 575 series.
Ashley Hardy’s 518 series included a 216 game, with Mackenzie Gill earning a 201 during her 449 set. Riley Warren had a steady 534 series, with a 190 high game. Hannah Brown and Rachel Hance paced F-M, each with three-game totals of 452.
A closer boys match still had Liverpool on top, 2-1, over F-M, overcoming the 672 series from the Hornets’ Kevin Winschel (who rolled a 300 earlier this season against West Genesee) with superior depth.
Josh Winzens shot a 595 series that featured a season-best 246 game. Brandon Davis got a 591 series (228 high game) as Devin Roberson added a 589 series with a high game of 222. Deacon Roberson’s 192 game was part of a 526 series.
Just 24 hours later, Liverpool was facing Baldwinsville, and gaining a 3-0 win over the Bees on the girls side with Hardy shooting a 541 series and high game of 196.
B’ville’s Brooke Flask put together a three-game total of 594, but the Warriors countered with Hardy plus 531 series from Warren and Makenzi Ormsby as Ormsby got a 213 game and Gill shot a 202 during her 503 set.
Once again, Liverpool’s boys completed the sweep by handling B’ville 2-1, Roberson shooting a 248 game in a 608 series as Davis got a 637 series and Zak Ormsby a 239 game in his 635 series. The Bees’ Tanner Rozycko shot a 638 series after he recorded a 300 game against F-M the week before.
C-NS returned last Tuesday afternoon and also faced F-M, winning both sides by equal 3-0 margins.
To lead the boys Northstars, Kyle Patterson shot a 663 series and a high game of 231.Tim Cloonan had a 566 series, while Landon Spingler (521 series) beat out J.J. O’Connell (518 series) and Tyler Dottolo (505 series).
The C-NS girls swept F-M 3-0, helped by Mikayla Drzodz shooting a 553 series with a high game of 202. Elianna Pitts, with a 542 series and 190 high game, was close behind as Jessaia McGriff had a 188 game in her 443 set. Katie Cloonan had a 489 series and Trinity Drzodz added a 476 series.
The SCAC Metro division race in girls bowling came down to Thursday’s matches. C-NS and Liverpool were both 7-2 in league play, as was Baldwinsville. All of them would win to share league honors.
Hardy led the Liverpool girls to a 3-0 sweep of F-M at Flamingo, putting together a 636 series that included a high game of 242. Helping out, Gill shot a 193 game on her way to a 549 series.
Meanwhile, C-NS had its own match with West Genesee and also got a 3-0 shutout. Pitts, with a 193 game and 519 series, led the way as Mikayla Drzodz earned a 448 series (179 high game) and McGriff added a 441 set ahead of Kate Cloonan’s 437 series.
Each of the boys teams won by 3-0 margins, too. Liverpool got another big performance from Zak Ormsby, who netted a 266 game on his way to a 741 series as Winzens was consistent in his 669 series (231 high game) and Deacon Roberson contributed a 602 set.
To sweep West Genesee, C-NS had Tim Cloonan shoot a 662 series, while O’Connell had a three-game total of 574. Patterson’s 215 game was part of a 520 series as Justin Morris shot a 220 game and Spingler a 200 game.
Now began intense practice and preparation for the Section III tournaments, with the girls taking place Feb. 3 at Flamingo and the boys exactly one week later at Pin-O-Rama in Utica.
