The Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA and Fayetteville-Manlius boys swim teams faced each other last Wednesday night, with the Red Rams hosting the meet, but the Hornets managing to come out on top as it prevailed 102-84.
A string of early wins helped F-M’s cause. Lucas Wieres, in two minutes, 1.39 seconds, edged J-D/CBA’s Nate Wales (2:02.48) in the 200-yard freestyle, with Tanner Eisenhut taking the 200 individual medley in 2:06.95.
Then, in the 50 freestyle, Nate Montgomery prevailed in 23.63 seconds over the Rams’ Conlan Rouke (23.82), though Rourke would later get a comfortable win in the 100 freestyle in 51.11 seconds.
Eisenhut,added a second title when he claimed a close 100 breaststroke duel with J-D/CBA’s Nathan Chen, finishing in 1:05.03 to Chen’s 1:05.20. This came after Quinn Smith won the 500 freestyle for the Hornets in 5:23.07 to Wales’ 5:26.31.
F-M also won two of three relays. Eisenhut, Wieres, Montgomery and Nico Foster went 1:35.95 to beat the Rams (1:39.07) in the 200 freestyle relay, and closed the meet by having Smith join Montgomery, Eisenhut and Wieres to go 3:38.65 in the 400 freestyle relay.
On J-D/CBA’s side, Lucas Dekaney earned 305.95 points to win in diving, though F-M’s trio of Michael Magee, Connor Gleasman and Mason Wieres earned the next three spots to gain valuable points.
Chris Bushnell would swim the 100 backstroke in 55.07 seconds, nearly 10 seconds ahead of F-M’s Richard Wan (1:04.88), after winnign the 100 butterfly in 54.99 seconds to the 59.66 from the Hornets’ Tristan Wellner. Bushnell, Rourke, Chen and Liam Kaplan went 1:44.93 in the 200 medley relay.
J-D/CBA, who had not swam in a head-to-head meet since Dec. 20 a (win over New Hartford), had a three-way contest last Monday against Mexico and Auburn, edging the Tigers 93-92 while also defeating the Maroons 80-63.
A key to the sweep was taking two of three relay events against Mexico. The Red Rams had Bushnell, Rourke, Chen and Kaplan go 1:46.02 in the 200 medley relay, with that same quartet also winning the 200 freestyle relay in 1:36.19.
Bushnell would swim the 100 butterfly in 55.59 seconds and cover the 200 individual medley in 2:06.97. Rourke roared to a time of 52.15 seconds in the 100 freestyle and go 23.82 seconds in the 50 freestyle.
Chen, clinching the win against Mexico, went 1:06.76 in the 100 breaststroke as Dekaney earned 277.30 points on the diving board. Wales went 2:03.12 in the 200 freestyle and 5:30.15 in the 500 freestyle, each time behind Auburn’s Sam Carbonaro.
