The Cicero-North Syracuse boys swim team had a meet last Wednesday against New Hartford at Le Moyne College, where the Northstars got contributions from all of its top swimmers on the way to defeating the Spartans 96-85.
Even though it was 2-6 going into the meet, C-NS immediately gained an edge when John Harbaugh, Dillon Johnson, Adam Rein and Bruce Hepel paired up to win the 200-yard individual medley.
On his own, Harbaugh won the 200 individual medley in a 1-2-3 finish with Rein and Joe Gucciardi, also finishing second in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.80.
Johnson swam the 100 backstroke in 1:05.95 to beat out teammate Seaver Schultz, who was second in 1:07.45. But Schultz was victorious in the 50 freestyle in 23.84 seconds.
Logan Petralia would take the 100 freestyle in 53.53 seconds, with Hepel third in 55.83 seconds. Then Dom Bagozzi won the 500 freestyle, his clocking of 5:53.66 just ahead of Connor Burke’s 5:56.79.
Rein had the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke of 1:13.49. Harbaugh, Petralia, Burke and Hepel won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.19 before the 400 freestyle relay where Petralia, Schultz, Bagozzi and Johnson posted 3:50.07.
As that went on, Liverpool faced the Syracuse City team and, improving to 9-0 overall, prevailed 56-52, mostly through a series of second and third-place finishes, though Uriy Grabovyy took diving honors with 197.55 points.
