In a week constantly interrupted by weather considerations, the Fayetteville-Manlius boys swim team returned last Friday to face Oswego and beat Buccaneers, 90-88 to improve to 7-2 on the season.
Knowing that a showdown with local rival Jamesville-DeWitt loomed on Wednesday, the Hornets notched its sixth consecutive victory with another strong performance from Tanner Eisenhut.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Eisenhut prevailed in one minute, 53.76 seconds, following that up by tearing through the 100 freestyle in 50.35 seconds.
Not stopping there, Eisenhut, joining Nate Montgomery, Tristan Wellner and Eric Bang, was victorious in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.77, also pairing with Montgomery, Lucas Wieres and Quinn Smith to swim the 400 freestyle relay in 3:40.83.
On his own, Montgomery tore to first place in the 50 freestyle in 23.17 seconds, with Smith winning the 200 individual medley in 2:13.43 as Wieres swam the 100 butterfly in 59.76 seconds to edge Oswego’s Casey DeLapp (1:00.08) and Wellner (1:00.97).
Miguel Aldana rolled to first place in the 500 freestyle in 5:32.45, with Jordan Krouse second in 5:48.54, though Krouse posted the fastest 100 backstroke time of 1:06.28.
Michael Magee, with 191.36 points, edged Connor Gleasman (188.90) for second place in diving, with Chris Ziobro second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.09 and Peter Pidan second in the 50 freestyle behind Montgomery.
The F-M meet against J-D would come against a sad backdrop as Jeff Gabriel, a 2017 graduate and standout on the Red Rams squad who helped break three school records before attending Dickinson College, passed away on Jan. 3 of injuries suffered in a late-November car accident in Pittsburgh.
