It was left to the Baldwinsville girls bowling team to pull off something no one had in nearly two years – namely, defeat the Liverpool Warriors.
When these two neighbors squared off last Wednesday at B’ville Sports Bowl, the Bees, led again by Brooke Flask and Amelia Ponto, earned a 2-1 decision that ended the Warriors’ 21-match win streak.
Flask was steady and productive, her 606 series including a 232 high game, while Ponto had the best individual game for B’ville, a 237 that led to a three-game total of 577.
Julia Spiech, with a 492 series, and Hannah Pinard, with a 455 series, helped out for the Bees as, for Liverpool, Ashley Hardy shot a 643 series and high game of 236, while Mackenzie Gill’s 183 game led to a 508 set as Riley Warren shot a 191 game in her 490 series.
This made up for the B’ville boys team’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, who overcame Tanner Rozycko’s 666 series and 238 high game as Dylan Williams had a 629 series (220 high game) and Dylan Love had a 595 series.
So deep were the Warriors that five bowlers shot series of 620 or better, with Zak Ormsby at the forefront thanks to his 687 series as Josh Wizens contributed a 664 series.
A day earlier at Solvay Recreation Alley, the Bees took on West Genesee and claimed a 3-0 victory on the girls side. Flask had a three-game total of 515, helped by a high game of 189. Spiech had the top game of 192 on her way to a 477 series.
B’ville’s boys lost, 2-1, to West Genesee, though Rozycko shot the best individual series of 591 that included a 230 high game.
Love had a 525 series and Dylan Williams added a 491 series, but WG had a bit more depth, led by Conor Matthewson, who had a 522 series ahead of Noah Ackerman (488 series), Richard Wituszynski (465 series) and Ben Conroy (452 series).
