The Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA boys swim team took its first defeat of the season last Monday night at Baldwinsville, unable to keep up with the Bees’ individual brilliance as it lost by a score of 51-42.
Chris Bushnell had two of the Red Rams’ three individual race wins, going two minutes, 6.81 seconds to take the 200-yard individual medley and then claiming the 100 backstroke in 54.87 seconds.
Conlan Rourke, in the 100 freestyle, needed 52.87 seconds to edge B’ville’s Bailey Ludden (52.98) for the top spot. Rourke also finished second in the 50 freestyle in 23.96 seconds.
Nate Wales was second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.05) and 500 freestyle (5:34.38). Rourke, Bushnell, Liam Kaplan and Connor Ball second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.54, with Bushnell, Rourke, Bobby Diel and Emmanuel Ignacio second in the 200 medley relay in 1:52.09.
B’ville’s standouts included Alex Hiltbrand, who won the 50 freestyle (22.72 seconds) and 100 butterfly (56.60 seconds), and John Licciardello, who was first in the 500 freestyle (5:24.45) as Nick Schultz went 1:02.91 in the 100 breaststroke.
J-D/CBA would compete again Friday, hosting Fulton, and led until the final race, when the Red Raiders got the points it needed to prevail 95-90.
Entering the 400 freestyle relay, the Rams were in front 86-85, but could only get a time of 3:57.08 in that event as Fulton’s quartet of Bryce Rogers, Nate Archer, Justin Atwater and Koji Burdic won in 3:47.81.
The Red Raiders used a string of second and third-place finishes to overcome J-D/CBA’s race wins, including two apiece from Bushnell. Rourke and Wales.
In the 100 backstroke, Bushnell remained steady, winning in 54.88 seconds after going 2:07.47 in the 200 IM. Rourke swept the sprints, taking the 50 freestyle in 24.55 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 53.04 seconds.
After taking the 200 freestyle in 2:02.68, Wales beat the field in the 500 freestyle in 5:30.63 to Rogers’ 5:34.34, while Nathan Chen got first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.21.
To open the meet, Bushnell, Rourke, Chen and Diel (who was second in the 100 butterfly) would swim the 200 medley relay in 1:48.01 to Fulton’s 1:50.68. Rourke, Chen, Bushnell and Kaplan improved to 1:36.44 in the 200 freestyle relay, again with the Red Raiders (1:39.86) second.
J-D/CBA has meets this week at West Genesee and against Cicero-North Syracuse, with a trip to Watertown set for Saturday afternoon.
