As it does each winter, the Jamesville-DeWitt/Christian Brothers Academy boys swim team will measure itself against the great success of the past as well as the opposition right in front of them.
For its season-opening meet last Tuesday night, J-D/CBA faced Syracuse, and the Red Rams had little trouble with the assignment, prevailing by a score of 93-71.
The first race proved quite close as J-D/CBA’s quartet of Chris Bushnell, Emmanuel Ignacio, Colby Porter and Mike Bratslavsky needed one minute, 54.44 seconds to hold off Syracuse’s 1:55 flat in the 200 medley relay.
Bushnell would tear through the 100 backstroke in 55.91 seconds after winning the 200 individual medley in 2:07.40. Nathan Chen was first in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.94 and swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.35.
Conlan Rourke handled the 200 freestyle in 1:57.03 and then won the 100 freestyle in 53.20 seconds. Lucas Dekaney amassed 256.40 points in diving as part of a 1-2-3 sweep with Konrad Souser and Skyler Bertrand.
Liam Kaplan was second in the 50 freestyle in 25.40 seconds as Nate Wales was runner-up in the 500 freestyle in 5:43.22. Bushnell, Chen, Steve Sayles and Tom Sullivan swam the 200 freestyle relay in 1:45.70.
That same night, Fayetteville-Manlius opened at Baldwinsville, and Tanner Eisenhut’s pair of titles proved a highlight in the Hornets’ 58-36 defeat to the Bees.
Eisenhut would swim the 200 IM in 2:06.66, which put him more than five seconds ahead of B’ville’s John Licciardello (2:12.62).
Then, in the 100 freestyle, Eisenhut emerged victorious from a close race with the Bees’ Bailey Ludden, prevailing in 52.12 seconds, just ahead of Ludden’s 52.28.
Miguel Aldana was second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.32) and 500 freestyle (5:34.96), with Richard Wan second in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.51 after a third in the 200 free.
Lucas Wieres went 1:01.45 for second place in the 100 butterfly as Chris Ziobro was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.21). Eisenhut, Wan, Wieres and Nate Montgomery went 1:49.89 in the 200 medley relay, just behind B’ville’s 1:48.67 as Eisenhut, Montgomery, Max Vidakovic and Nico Foster were second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.27.
F-M has meets this week against Cicero-North Syracuse and defending sectional Class A champion Liverpool, both of them at Cazenovia College. J-D/CBA would go to Baldwinsville Monday and then host Fulton Friday night.
