In another OHSL Liberty division race, the Cazenovia boys cross country team faced Marcellus last Wednesday afternoon and took a 21-35 defeat to the Mustangs.
Jared Smith led the Lakers, his time of 18 minutes, 30 seconds on the 2.9-mile Marcellus course just behind the Mustangs’ Aiden Shea (18:29) for second place as Nick Roseboom won in 17:51.
Noah DeRochie was fourth in 18:34, four seconds behind Smith, but Marcellus earned the next three spots in front of Jacob Buckley and Zach Wendel, each of whom posted 19:52.
Cazenovia then ran to sixth place out of 14 teams in Saturday’s Auburn Invitational, where DeRochie was 19th among individuals in 18:41.2, beating out Smith, who was 22nd in 18:58.7.
Buckley made his way to 35th place in 19:36.2 and Stan Angus (20:10.4) also had a top-50 finish, with Ben McPherson (21:24.0), Justin Ossont (21:48.7) and Hunter McCullough (22:08.2) trailing.
Chittenango sent both of its teams to last Saturday’s Manhattan Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
In the boys Varsity D race, Ersilio Cerminaro led the Bears with a 30th-place time of 13:48 flat on the 2.5-mile Van Cortlandt Park course. Dave Gratien was 43rd in 13:58.7.
Nate Lampman led the next pack of Chittenango runners, posting 14:51.1 as Dylan Price, in 15:11.4, was just ahead of David Seale (15:27.7), Devlin Cameron (15:30.8) and Tristam LaFountaine (15:34.3).
In the girls Varsity C race (Mike Cohen Memorial), Chittenango was 14th out of 28 teams and had McKenzie Dombroski finish 43rd in 16:42 flat, with Chelsea Lamphere taking 63rd place in 17:09.7.
Just behind Dombroski and Lamphere, Makayla Capeling posted 17:26.5 and Piper Beckwith finished in 17:47.7. Kiara Waite posted 18:11.1 and Jada Sowich finished in 19:05 flat. Lailah Emad had a time of 19:46.5.
