Firmly entrenched behind Auburn in the Salt City Athletic Conference Empire division race, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls tennis team has not faced much difficulty against any foe beside the Maroons.
Cortland did give the Red Rams a bit of a scare in last Monday’s match, but J-D still had enough to turn back the Purple Tigers 5-2.
With Lily Fleet beaten in singles 6-2, 6-3 by Elina Thayer, Anna Sofia Hege turned it around by routing Jennifer Baker 6-2, 6-1 as Tara Pollock, in first singles, rolled past Lexi Zacek 6-0, 6-1.
J-D also won three of four doubles matches, absorbing a 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 defeat by Olivia Frison DeAngelis and Lena Jones to the Cortland duo of Malena Darling and Lily Devlen.

This week concluded with J-D roaring past Syracuse West 7-0 on Friday. In none of the seven matches did the Rams lose more than two games in any set, the closest of them a 6-2, 6-2 doubles win by Frison DeAngelis and Jones over Kelly La and Amor Williams.
East Syracuse Minoa got a win of its own last Monday against Central Square, mostly leaning on its doubles teams to get a 4-3 victory over the Redhawks.

But the Bears’ Sarah Lanphear got past the Cobras’ Michaela Marturano 6-3, 6-4, and Chittenango won all of the doubles matches in straight sets, the closest of them when Lenora Cendrone and Abby Wilkinson lost, 6-4, 6-2, to Delaney Dawkins and Brooke DiFlorio.
In a 7-0 defeat to Skaneateles a day later, Grimes was unable to snare a set from the Lakers, with Wilkinson, in singles, getting close in the first set of a 6-4, 6-0 loss to Hope Allyn as Cedrone, paired with Abby Fletcher, battled in a 6-3, 7-5 doubles defeat to Riley Fouts and Bridget Neumann.
All of these defeats made the 4-3 victory Grimes earned over Jordan-Elbridge on Friday sweeter. It included a singles sweep as Knittel beat Wendy Carter 6-0, 6-2, with Marturano topping Abby Skotinski 6-0, 6-1 and Mathewson getting past Maddie Green 6-1, 6-2.
Needing just one point in doubles, the Cobras saw three matches claimed by the Eagles in two sets, but in a decisive comeback Cedrone and Wilkinson got past Delaney Dunham and Megan Hatt 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
