Having made its quick ascent to the top of the Section III Class A ranks, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls swim team is giving every indication that it might stay there for a while.
The Hornets completely dominated last Thursday night’s season opener at Liverpool, sweeping every early race and showing lots of depth on the way to routing the Warriors 100-53.
Cara Campell got it going with a sprint sweep, Campell swimming the 50-yard freestyle in 25.96 seconds and then going 57.06 seconds in the 100 freestyle to hold off Hannah Kellogg (57.97) at the top.
As for Emma Lutrell, she was impressive winning the 500 freestyle in 5:29.44 over Lindsay Mathews (5:35.39), this following a victory in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.76, just ahead of Addie Antshel’s 1:05.36.
Kellogg had prevailed in the 200 freestyle in 2:04.03 before Mathews, in 2:20.68, held off Antshel (2:22.23) and Katie Ottaviano (2:29.09) in a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200 individual medley.
Alessandra Manicone’s 186.45 points edged Liverpool’s Sophia Recuparo (185.63) in diving, with Grace VanBramer third and Meaghan Maloney fourth.
Campell, Kellogg, Sasha Brown and Michelle Sipple claimed the 200 freestyle relay in 1:46.48 as Ottaviano, in 1:13.11, held off Morgan Kingsley (1:13.26) in the 100 breaststroke.
That same day, Jamesville-DeWitt had its season opener against Syracuse, moved from J-D’s pool to Nottingham High School, but that didn’t affect the Red Rams, who prevailed 101-78.
Amelia Hesler debuted by going 2:03.44 in the 200 freestyle and then winning the 100 butterfly in 1:04.54 while also pairing with Emily Ninestein, Kathryn Donaghue and Julia Antoine to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.30.
Sawyer Parker (57.42 seconds) held off Emma Galletta (57.65) in the 100 freestyle, with Parker second to Gwen Lister’s winning 2:21.56 in the 200 IM. Parker, Lister, Antoine and Tzetzis were first in the 200 medley relay in 2:05.66.
Galletta (26.42 seconds) and Ninestein (28.17) went 1-2 in the 50 freestyle as Lister won the 100 backstroke in 1:08.55. Sofia Bebla had the fastest time of 1:19.90 in the 100 breaststroke.
