Capping another fine all-around season, the Jordan-Elbridge boys track and field team recorded a fourth-place finish in last Wednesday’s Section III Class B-2 championships at Canastota High School.
With 83 points, the Eagles were not far from the close race at the top as Cazenovia (107 points) held off Clinton (102.5 points) and Hannibal (101 points) for the team title.
A full 16 points came from the 400-meter dash, where Marion Quigley won in 51.93 seconds, beating a field that included Ethan Kinney, who was third in 52.51 seconds.
Then Quigley made it a double when he won the 200-meter dash in 23.71 seconds over CBA’s Avion Othman (24.14) before getting third place in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet 11 inches and then going 40’9” in the triple jump to again finish third.
Erik Jewell was the champion in the five-event pentathlon. With a strong closing 1,500-meter run of 4:47.1, he broke open a close battle with Canastota’s Cole DeKing and won, 2,442 points to DeKing’s 2,205, with Derek Quigley (1,965 points) claiming sixth place.
J-E closed out its track work with a victory in the 4×400 relay. Logan Kinney, Ethan Kinney, Hugh Schader and Ryan Chiaramonte went 3:34.57 to hold off Hannibal (3:35.26) by less than a second.
In the 4×100 relay, Chiaramonte, Ethan Kinney, Jeremiah Sparks and Nate Williams were second in 46.91 seconds to Cazenovia (45.95). Sparks cleared 5’8” for fourth place in the high jump as Chiaramonte got fifth place in the 400 hurdles in 1:00.87 and sixth place in the 110 hurdles in 17.30 seconds.
Schader, Logan Kinney, Michael Bennick and Kenny Williams were third in the 4×800 relay in 8:51.17. Austin Poticher had a fifth-place shot put toss of 38’5 ¾” and was seventh (96’8”) in the discus. Lawton Schwarting was sixth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:58.82 as Nate Jennings was seventh in the pole vault, clearing 10’6.
J-E’s girls team had just five points at the sectional B-2 meet, four of them from the 4×800, where Theresa Dristle, Hannah Fichter, Madison Daly and Kyler Langhorn posted 10:39.18 to finish fourth.
Meagan Jackson was sixth in the pentathlon with 1,547 points, while Kyra White topped 7’6” for seventh place in the pole vault. Dristle got ninth place in the 3,000-meter run as Ashlee Eaton was 10th in the 100 sprint and 11th in the 200.

Though it didn’t count for points, the Eagles won a unique 4×100 relay for throwers. Jewell, Derek Quigley, Aiden Lewis and Rick Rauss went 50.61 seconds to easily top Central Valley Academy (53.33) and four other challengers.
Ethan Kinney ran the 400-meter dash in 52.70 seconds, trailing only Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s Cory Couture (50.88), who pulled away to win. Sparks cleared 6 feet in the high jump for third place, just one inch behind Bishop Grimes’ Nate Gay, who won with 6’1”. Also, Sparks had a sixth-place time of 11.95 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
Marion Quigley went 23.64 seconds in the 200-meter dash to finish fourth before helping Sparks Chiaramonte and Ethan Kinney get third place in the 4×100 relay in 46.29 seconds.
Schader, Williams, Marion Quigley and Ethan Kinney were third in the 4×800 relay in 8:36.7. Williams was seventh in the mile in 4:56.34 and helped Schader, Lee Jewell and Jared Alpha finish fifth (3:46.57) in the 4×400 relay.
Chiaramonte got fourth place in the 400 hurdles in 1:00.64 as Schader was sixth (2:10.17) in the 800-meter run. Jewell was seventh in the long jump (18’ ¾”) and ninth in the 110 hurdles.
Bishop Ludden was part of the Class D sectional meet last Tuesday at New York Mills, where Zoe Fortin won the triple jump with a leap of 33’7” and was third in the long jump with 15’4 ½” to account for 16 of the Gaelic Knights’ 26 points.
The other 10 came from Sarah Thompson’s victory in the pentathlon. Earning 1,602 points, Thompson finished 223 points clear of Oriskany’s Kara Wolanin in the runner-up spot.
