In a busy weekend of high school track and field, Jamesville-DeWitt girls star Alexandria Payne continued to expand upon her long resume as Fayetteville-Manilus swept the boys and girls titles at the Oneida Invitational.
Payne, along with her J-D teammates plus stars from East Syracuse Minoa and Christian Brothers Academy, were part of last Friday’s Cicero-North Syracuse Invitational at Bragman Stadium.
Not only did Payne win twice, but in the 100-meter hurdles she broke her own school record with a time of 14.80 seconds, needing it to beat out Baldwinsville’s Adrianna Straughter (15.17).
In the long jump, Payne beat the field as she flew 17 feet 10 inches, with no one else breaking the 17-foot mark. Payne also was second in the high jump, clearing 5’1”.
Overall, J-D was third in the team standings behind C-NS and B’ville with 44 points while ESM and CBA tied for 10th with 22 points.
The Red Rams’ Sophia Vincigeurra was second in the 1,500-meter run in 4:57.68. J-D got fourth in the 4×800 relay in 11:05.89 and fourth (52.74 seconds) in the 4×100.
ESM’s Mia Montgomery, who was third in the long jump (16’2”) behind Payne, went to the top in the triple jump, her leap of 36’1 ½” just enough to hold off C-NS’s Brooke Blaisdell (36 feet) as Julia Perrotta was seventh with 31’7 ½”.
The Spartans’ Mackenzie Bourdon finished fourth in the 100 hurdles in 17.15 seconds and sixth in the 400 hurdles, with Jennah Ferrari fifth in the high jump, clearing 5’10”.
CBA’s Cory Knox, in 1:09.07, was a close second to Whitesboro’s Morgan Ashton (1:08.98) in the 400-meter hurdles, while Deja Jones got second place in the 3,000-meter run in 10:47.93. Elissa Kempisty had a third-place triple jump of 33’7 ¾” as she also was seventh in the long jump.
On the boys side, ESM had 22 points to J-D’s 19, with the Spartans’ Gabe Holloman winning the shot put as he tossed it 46’11” to beat out Baldwinsville’s Cameron Majchrzak (44’10”) and the field, with Emir Karic seventh.
Gavin Stevens followed with a second-place discus throw of 133’6” behind Central Square’s Trevor Walker (147 feet) as Nick Berg was fourth in the mile in 4:36.05.
J-D’s David Fikhman won again in the 400 sprint in 49.73 seconds, one of his best times of the spring as Joey Armenta (52.55) was sixth. Alex Carbacio was third in the 110 high hurdles in 16.42 seconds.
Bishop Grimes had Nate Gay finish second in the high jump, clearing 6’1” to only trail Indian River’s Antravious Bell, who won with 6’6”. Gay also was fifth in the triple jump (40’1”).
A day later, at the Oneida Invitational, F-M’s boys team edged Rome Free Academy, 84 points to 79, for the top spot, while the girls rolled to victory with 145 points, more than twice the total of runner-up Camden.
In the girls 1,500, Phoebe White tore to victory in 4:41.57, pulling away from Grace Kaercher (5:03.52) in second place. White paired with Sophie Ryan, Alex Villalba and Claire Walters to run the 4×800 in 9:25.51
Susan Bansbach, in 1:00.97, edged Palmer Madsen (1:01.95) in the 400 sprint, and in the 200 Bansbach won again in 27.52 seconds to Madsen’s 27.78. Bansbach, Madsen, Cady Barns and Fiona Mejico pulled away to win the 4×400 in 4:16.13.
Gwen Shepardson was first in the 100 hurdles in 16.66 seconds, and then went 1-2 with Mejico in the 400 hurdles as Shepardson posted 1:09.79 and Mejico got second place in 1:11.20.
Walters ran 3,000 meters in 9:53.54 to prevail. Isabel Zuber, to win the long jump, went 16’7” as no one else broke the 16-foot mark. Villalba was third in the 800 as Barns was fourth in the triple jump. Samantha Pynn was fifth in the high jump.
Going 1-2 in the boys mile, F-M had Sam Otis prevail in 4:34.08 and Peyton Geehrer get second place in 4:36.72. Garrett Brennan roared to victory in the 3,200-meter run in 9:18.63, with Geoff Howles third in 9:49.32.
Howles, along with Brennan, Nolan Chiles and Jack Duncanson, won the 4×800 in 8:25.50 before Max Perry, Casey Coleman, Armando Adrian and John Nethercott edged Camden, 3:39.08 to 3:39.88, to win the 4×400.
John Meskos was third in the 800, with Perry fourth. Adrian was fifth in the 400 sprint and Kobe Oley fifth in the 400 hurdles. John was sixth in the 200 as Dan Sokolovic got fourth place in the shot put and Sawyer Dereszynski got sixth place in the discus.
In a pentathlon sweep, F-M’s Ryan Serp won the boys event with 2,287 points, while Katie Berge’ needed 1,835 points to hold off South Jefferson’s Madison Neukirch (1,770) and prevail.
