Maintaining its undefeated mark, the Westhill boys tennis team got last week’s action underway with a 5-0 shutout of the LaFayette Lancers.
Mike Ferrara and David Bleskoski each won 6-0, 6-0 singles matches over, respectively, Brennen Thrall and Taylor Tumino, with Jackson Bradley getting a 6-2, 6-0 win over Luke Wanlass.
Tom Chaddock and Ryan Rolince continued their doubles dominance, stopping Brandon Benjamin and Mason Shute 6-0, 6-0. By those same scores, Conor Mahoney and Nick Sauro blanked Travis Cruikshank and Lexi Harrington.
Off until Thursday, Westhill returned that day and gained one of its most important wins of the season, fending off Cazenovia 3-2.
Chaddock and Rolince won 6-4, 6-4, over Teddy Coughlin and Dan Gavilondo. Mahoney and Sauro topped Aiden Kalteski and Griffin Monahan 6-2, 6-4. Bradley and Ferrara lost in singles, but Bleskoski secured the clinching point when he beat Liam Flannery 6-2, 6-1.
On Saturday, Westhill won again, blanking Chittenango 5-0 to move to 10-0 on the season. Bradley beat Matt Lanphear 6-3, 6-3, while Ferrara stopped David Mullin 6-2, 6-1 as, in a doubles classic, Chaddock and Rolince won a 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 6-1 battle over the Bears’ team of Sean Austin and Ben Cyr.
When it started its action last week, West Genesee would take all four doubles matches against Cicero-North Syracuse on the way to defeating the Northstars 6-1.
Stefan Atanasov and John Northrop prevailed, 6-4, 7-6, over Brandon Millias and Jon Corl. Ryan Joyce and Erik Shanahan Handled Ryan Hill and Ryan Gallagher 6-1, 6-3, with Anthony DiLorenzo and Carter McCrea blanking Pete Gill and Brady Petranchuk 6-0, 6-0, plus Max Mekker and Michael White handling Joe Bowen and Kyle Bulko 6-3, 6-0.
In singles, James Plunkett could not hold an early lead against James Corl in a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 defeat, but in the other matches Matt Mannara handled Edwin Hirsh 6-0, 6-0, with Noah Ruston getting a 6-2, 6-1 win over Wyatt Dupell.
WG then moved on to face Liverpool on Wednesday and won again, 6-1, propelled by a singles sweep. Mannara beat Caleb Munski 6-3, 6-1, while Joyce took a turn and beat Anthony Puma 6-4, 6-1, with Ruston handling Caleb Arnold 6-1, 6-2.
Plunkett paired with Northrop in doubles to top Fillipo Valenti and Ben White 6-3, 6-3. Also in doubles, Atanasova teamed with Mekker to beat Aaron Alejo and Brandon Davis 6-3, 7-6.
Nearly getting a shutout, DiLorenzo and McCrea lost, 2-6, 7-5, 7-5, to Eli Barbour and Adam Ritter, but White and Jackson Craig got their own three-set win when they topped Andrew Johnson and Jeff Noll 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.
WG handled Syracuse East 7-0 on Thursday afternoon, preserving that shutout when Shanahan, in a singles turn, rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 win over Matt Houck.
Another singles match was forfeited, but Joyce beat Hanh Duong 6-3, 6-1 as Plunkett and Mannara paired up to beat Eh Moo Soe and Samir Subba 6-1, 6-1. The teams of Atanasov-Northrop and Mekker-White also won in two sets as Jackson Craig and Robert Jocz earned a point, beating Chris Edmunds and Kyle Giardine 6-4, 6-2.
Marcellus used its dominance of singles play in last Monday’s match against Chittenango to pick up a 3-2 victory over the Bears.
The Mustangs’ Andrew Kammer roared past Evan Edwards 6-0, 6-0, while Noah LeFever got his own 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Brian Schermerhorn. Shawn Manke handled Mullin 6-2, 6-0.
Moving to the doubles side, Marcellus dropped both points. Justin Costa and Dan Wrona lost, 6-0, 6-3 to Austin and Cyr, with Nate Murphy and Matt Vitale falling to Zach Falkenburg and Matt Lanphear 6-1, 6-2.
Then Marcellus took its turn against LaFayette on Tuesday and got a 5-0 victory, with Tyler Guerrina prevailing 6-1, 6-0 over Tummino in singles as Quinn Clarke beat Molly Fitzpatrick 6-0, 6-0.
Kammer won, too, as he handled Wanlass 6-0, 6-0. LeFever and Manke blanked Benjamin and Shute 6-0, 6-0, with Costa and Wrona handling Cruikshank and Harrington 6-2, 6-0.
Making it three in a row on Wednesday, Marcellus, aided by a pair of forfeits, beat Skaneateles 3-2. In the one contested match that the Mustangs claimed, Costa and Manke paired up to beat Andrew Neumann and Duncan Raddant 6-3, 6-3.
