With a full and crowded schedule in front of them, the Christian Brothers Academy softball team remained in top form, moving its overall record to7-1.
The Brothers closed out April by going to Mexico and blanking the Tigers 13-0, scoring all of its runs in the first four inning in support of pitcher Julia Boule, who allowed just three hits and one walk, striking out eight.
A three-run first inning and six-run second inning proved more than enough as Abby Benware homered, singled, walked twice and scored two runs.
Bridget O’Hern went three-for-four with a double and three RBIs as Emily Hall scored three runs and matched Benware, driving in two runs. Catherine Burns and Victoria Hall each scored twice as single RBIs went to Witz Kenzie and Natalie Stopyra.
Hosting Jordan-Elbridge two days later, CBA blanked the Eagles 5-0, getting a complete game from Maddy Tallman, who only allowed three hits and did not surrender a walk.
All of the Brothers’ runs came in the first three innings. Juila Boule contributed a double and two RBIs, with Burns and Julia Griffith getting one RBI apiece as Burns got three hits and Julia Sullivan two hits.
Another lopsided win came on Saturday, CBA handling Altmar-Parish-Williamstown 16-1, the damage done in a six-run fourth inning and eight-run sixth inning as Tallman pitched a one-hitter, earning five strikeouts.
Burns and O’Hern both hit home runs, with Burns getting four RBIs and O’Hern three RBIs. Hall’s three hits led to four RBIs, with Tallman getting three hits as she drove in two runs. Benware and Griffith had one RBI apiece.
Fayetteville-Manlius took a pair of lopsided defeats to West Genesee in the last days of April, by scores of 17-2 and 16-1, but would make a quick recovery, highlighted by last Wednesday’s 6-5 victory over Baldwinsville.
Against the Bees, the Hornets saw a 1-0 lead vanish when B’ville scored five runs in the top of the fourth, only to answer with its own five-run rally in the bottom of the fourth to go back in front for good.
Sophie Woodridge keyed things with a three-run double as Gracie Bishop, Sarah Vaccaro and Emily Gryczka also drove in runs. Bishop and Woodridge finished with three hits apiece as Gryczka got two hits.
In the latter of the two games against West Genesee, Vaccaro’s single brought home Bishop and briefly gave the Hornets a 1-0 lead. But WG scored in every inning, taking the lead in the second and then getting six runs in the bottom of the third to pull away.
Somehow, F-M turned all of this around on Tuesday and ripped past Mexico 24-5, with four-run outbursts in the first and third innings followed up by a six-run fifth inning and seven-run seventh inning.
Everyone in the Hornets’ lineup got at least one hit and drove in at least one run, with Woodridge going four-for-five that included two triples, a double, four runs scored and four RBIs.
Patricia Boltman also had four hits, driving in two runs. Vaccaro scored five times as she joined Boltman, Gryczka, Morgan Napier and Annaliese OuYang by getting two RBIs. Isabella Bastian picked up three RBIs.
Scheduled for a twin bill against Cicero-North Syracuse on Friday, F-M only got in one of the games due to weather and lost, 10-0, to the defending Section III Class AA champion Northstars. Bishop had two of the Hornets’ four hits, including a double.
Bishop Grimes met up with Cazenovia last Tuesday, and lost 10-5 to the Lakers. Of the Cobras’ five hits, three came from Alyssa Cavallo as McKenna Squier and Kendall Mancuso also earned hits and Becca Vinciquerra scored a run. Mackenzie Waite (three hits) and Hannah Matteson (home run, two runs scored) led Cazenovia.
However, Grimes unloaded at the plate in the first inning of Wednesday’s 16-4 win over Weedsport, getting 11 runs in that initial frame, more than Sarah Falgitano needed as she pitched a complete game, striking out four.
Mancuso hit a home run, doubled, singled and amassed five RBIs. Falgitano drove in four runs and Bri Squier had three RBIs as they, along with Vinciquerra, earned three hits apiece and Alyssa Cavallo added four hits.
In Friday’s game with Tully, Grimes took an 11-2 defeat, its record falling to 1-4 overall.
