It only figured that the wild weather that caused so much havoc with the April portion of the Baldwinsville track and field schedule remained in place when May got underway.
The Bees had to deal with heat, humidity, wind and even lightning during last Wednesday’s meet against Fayetteville-Manlius at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, but made its last home meet count as the boys ripped past the Hornets 102-39.
Kieran Sheridan, who had broken the school record (48.86 seconds) in the 400-meter dash in the April 27 Chittenango Invitational, prevailed here in 53.11 seconds after helping Connor McManus, Michael Lawrence and Jon Formoza go 8:12.24 in the 4×800 relay
But Sheridan saved his big moment for the closing 4×400 relay. As the anchor leg started, the Bees trailed F-M, despite solid runs by Lawrence, Evan Daprano and Garrett Selover, but Sheridan made up all the ground in his lap around the track and, at the finish line, nipped the Hornets to help B’ville win that race in 3:35.86.
Cameron Majchrzak threw the discus 132 feet 1 inch and the discus 44’9” to win both events. Nate Jaquint cleared 5’9” in the high jump and went 19’3 ¼” in the long jump, while Nick Kruger had a winning triple jump of 39’6 ½” and tore to a victory in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.34.
Zion Hayes took the 100-meter dash in 11.50 seconds and Selover went 23.75 seconds in the 200-meter dash to complete a B’ville sprint sweep, while Aaron Sprague cleared 8’6” in the pole vault to complete a Bees clean sweep of field events. Hayes, Selover, Daprano and Chase Brown won the 4×100 relay in 45.85 seconds.
Though the B’ville girls lost 84-60 to F-M, who stayed atop the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division standings, it still got two wins apiece from Adrianna Straughter, Lauren Addario and Danielle Marsell.
Straughter held on to take the 100-meter hurdles in 15.80 seconds, adding a win in the high jump by clearing 5 feet. Marsell threw the discus 97 feet 3 ½ inches and had a top shot put toss of 30’8 ½” as Maya Hewitt cleared 8’6” to win the pole vault.
Addario beat the field in the 100-meter dash in 12.87 seconds and also won the 200-meter dash in 27.24 seconds. In between those events, she paired with Mackenzie Wodka, Courtney Clute and Allyson Surowick to win the 4×100 relay in 53.33 seconds.
F-M would again sweep the distance running events and get double wins from Phoebe White (400-meter dash, 400-meter hurdles) and Isabel Zuber (long jump, triple jump), plus take the 4×400 and 4×800 relays.
