By the time the Skaneateles girls lacrosse team welcomed Cazenovia to Hyatt Stadium on a frigid Saturday afternoon, more than a week had passed since its narrow 8-7 escape against Rush-Henrietta in the March 29 opener.
That extra week of preparation seemed to give the Lakers an extra gear, which it displayed in a dominant performance against those other Lakers that included a first-half shutout and an eventual 15-2 margin.
They were originally set to play this Laker clash at Cazenovia College’s Christakos Field, but due to field conditions it got moved to the Skaneateles turf.
Still, the sub-freezing temperatures did not make for comfortable playing conditions, though Skaneateles adjusted quite well, not letting up in the opening half until it had established a 10-0 margin.
Riley Brogan led that charge, eventually earning six goals, plus an assist. The main help came from Grace Dower, who notched a three-goal hat trick and also had an assist.
Ioanna Christou found the net twice as single goals went to Maggie Newton, Abbey Logan, Olivia Dobrovosky and Ellie Peterson. Olivia Navaroli contributed an assist as Chloe Willard and Mikaylee Whalen earned Cazenovia’s only goals in the second half.
With a 2-0 mark, Skaneateles takes on rival Marcellus Tuesday in its first road game of 2018 before hosting Mexico Friday night.
