After waiting a week due to a Feb. 7 weather postponement, the Cazenovia boys indoor track and field team made a spirited push toward the top of the standings in Wednesday night’s Section III Class B-2 championship meet at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena.
With 75 points, the Lakers nearly caught Hannibal (78 points) for the runner-up spot, but settled for third place as Clinton, with 140 points, easily claimed the team title.
Ray Satchwell, by himself, accounted for 26 points, including the Lakers’ lone victory in the triple jump, where he went 40 feet 3 1/4 inches as teammate Aiden Emhoff was fifth with 37’7 1/2″.
Moving to the high jump, Satchwell cleared 5’8″ to get second place behind Clinton’s Marley Glasgow (6 feet) as Dalton Sevier also cleared 5’8″, but settled for fourth place. Satchwell also had a second-place long jump of 19′ 1/2″as Hannibal’s Fenix Burger prevailed with 20′ 3/4″.
In the 4×200 relay, James Pavelchak, Justin Gagnon, Jacob Olkowski and Slater DeLeone went 1:39.48, just five-hundredths of a second behind Jordan-Elbridge (1:39.43) at the line.
Pavelchak went 7.02 seconds for third place in the 55-meter dash and also was third in the 300-meter dash in 38.49 seconds. Noah DeRochie finished third in the 1,000-meter run in 3:00.14, with Gagnon third (8.59 seconds) and Olkowski fourth (8.61 seconds) in the 55-meter hurdles, Olkowski also getting sixth place in the 300.
James McPherson got to fifth place in the 3,200-meter run in 10:18.05, with DeRochie ninth. Justin Gagnon, Jack McDonald, Slater DeLeone and Zach Wendel finished fourth in the 4×400 relay in 4:03.57, while Collin Killiany cleared 10 feet in the pole vault to finish sixth.
Meanwhile, in the sectional Class B-1 meet, Chittenango earned fourth place in a 10-team field with 44 points. Westhill won team honors with 134 points.
The Bears were victorious in the 4×400 as Dylan Price, Caleb Prenoveau, Nate Lampman and Matt Morak went 3:52.40 to edge Phoenix (3:52.42) by two-hundredths of a second. Joe Mosack was victorious in the weight throw, his toss of 45’11 3/4″ more than four feet ahead of Westhill’s Evan Ballard (41’5 1/2″).
Price, Prenoveou, Morak and Ersilio Cerminaro were second (8:57.12) to Homer (8:23.77) in the 4×800. Also, Cerminaro was third in the 3,200 in 10:35.12 as Dave Gratien finished fourth in 10:39.92 to go with his seventh-place finish in the mile.
Kyle Tessier earned fourth place in the shot put with a toss of 39’2″. The Bears also got fifth place (1:47.15) in the 4×200 as Jake Boyer, Warren Tedford, Eljiah Mohamed and Dakota Diable took part.
The Chittenango girls picked up 17 points in its sectional B-1 meet, nearly half of them from the 4×800, where Piper Beckwith, McKayla Capeling, Lailah Emad and Mckenzie Dombroski got second place in 10:45.66 behind Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s winning 10:32.61.
On her own, Dombroski was fourth in the 1,000 in 3:18.26. Beckwith, Tamia Williams, Brooke Price and Taylor Glazier were sixth in the 4×400 in 4:49.37, with Glazier and Williams joining Jada Sowich and Marilla Bongiovanni for fourth place in the 4×200 in 2:06.02.
