With large expectations, the Baldiwnsville boys swim team is bound for Nottingham High School this week, ready to battle for Section III Class A honors.
Before that, though, the Bees had one more regular-season meet to take care of, which it did last Monday as it hosted Oswego and spread its top talent around to dry different events during a 56-32 victory over the Buccaneers.
One example of this different approach was having Alex and Ryan Hiltbrand both swim in the 500-yard freestyle. Alex won the race in five minutes, 8.39 seconds, with Hiltbrand getting second place in 5:23.94.
Ryan Hiltbrand had already claimed victory in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.71 as Alex Hiltbrand, in 22.35 seconds, beat out Nick Schultz (24.16) in the 50 freestyle, with Hiltbrand, Schultz, John Licciardello and Bailey Ludden winning the 200 medley relay in 1:45.12.
In the 200 individual medley, Licciardello finished first in 2:13.64, just ahead of Brandon Formoza, who posted 2:18.48 while also beating the field in the 100 freestyle in 53.84 seconds.
Jamus Socker was second in the 200 freestyle behind Ryan Hiltbrand and also was runner-up in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.63, behind John Burns, who won in 1:01.81 and posted the fastest time in the 100 backstroke in 1:09.68.
Formoza, Socker, Schultz and Hiltbrand won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.57, with Schultz and Hiltbrand returning for the 400 freestyle relay, joining Licciardello and Aidan Solomon to get a time of 3:47.26.
The win pushed B’ville’s regular-season record to 8-3, its only defeats coming to Liverpool, Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA and Mexico.
