From sprints to distance races to throwing contests to jumping events, the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team was an all-around force worthy of the titles it earned throughout the winter.
And none was more important for the Bees than the Section III Class AA championship it earned last Thursday night at SRC Arena, where with 158 points B’ville nearly doubled the total of second-place Liverpool, who had 84 points.
In the 1,000-meter run, the Bees earned 22 points as Adam Davis won in 2:40.15 over Liverpool’s Nathan Reeves (2:40.73), with Sam Kellner third in 2:41.26 and Connor McManus fourth in 2:42.04.
Kieran Sheridan needed 1:23.62 to prevail at 600 meters as Michael Lawrence was fourth in 1:27.92. In the 300-meter dash, Sheridan, in 36.72 seconds, trailed only Cicero-North Syracuse star Jeremiah Willis (36.36) as Greg Porceng was third in 37.44 seconds.
Nate Jaquint, to prevail in the high jump, cleared 6 feet 4 inches, half a foot ahead of the field. Jaquint also got second place in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.07 seconds, with Josh Scholten fifth in 8.56 seconds, and was third in the triple jump with a leap of 41’8”.
Judson Fletcher added yet another B’ville title in the shot put, his throw of 47’1 ¾”more than a foot better than any other throw as Cameron Majchrzak was fourth with 42’11 ¾”. In the weight throw, Majchrzak (51’10 ¼”) beat out Fletcher (47’4”) for third place.
Davis took second place in the mile in 4:40.10 behind Reeves (4:38.93), with Ben Timmons fourth in 4:40.32. Also, Ben Timmons was second in the 3,200-meter run in 10:00.89, while Joe Licameli was third in 10:06.80.
B’ville also claimed the 4×400 relay as Lawrence, Porceng, Cole Peters and Evan DaPrano went 3:38.26 to get away from runner-up Liverpool (3:41.63) by more than three seconds.
In the 4×200, Sheridan, Porceng, DaPrano and Zion Hayes finished in 1:36.51, just behind Liverpool’s 1:36.34. Hayes was fourth in the 55-meter dash in 6.96 seconds, while in the 4×800 the Bees were also fourth as Timmons, Davis, McManus and Kellner posted 8:36.03.
Jae Lee, clearing 11’6”, was third in the pole vault as Central Square’s Joe Weaver broke his own sectional record, topping 15’3” as Aidan Priest (10 feet) was sixth for the Bees.
Trying to match what their male counterparts accomplished, the B’ville girls indoor track team picked up 104 points in its sectional AA meet, but settled for second place because Fayetteville-Manlius, led by its deep pool of distance runners, won with 141 points.
Still, the Bees dominated the sprints as Lauren Addario, in 7.40 seconds, went 1-2 with Karen Ekure (7.54) in the 55-meter dash, while in the 300 Ekure won in 42.30 seconds, more than a full second ahead of the field as Maria Henwood (44.12) was fifth.
To complete that sweep, in the 4×200, B’ville had Ekure, Addario, Henwood and Peyton Fleming go 1:48.95 to hold off Rome Free Academy (1:49.25) for the top spot. Addario then won the triple jump by going 36’8 ½” as another Liverpool athlete, Marissa Baskin, was second with 36’4 ¼”.
Again winning twice, Adrianna Straughter cleared 5 feet 4 inches to win the high jump over Liverpool’s Meghan Milazzo (5’3”) after she took the 55 hurdles in 8.77 seconds, well clear of F-M’s Gwenn Shepardson (9.04) as Allyson Surowick was fifth in 9.40 seconds.
Contending for a third title in the long jump, Straughter went 17’1 ¼”, trailing only Baskin, who went 17’10”. Maya Hewitt cleared 8’6” for second place in the pole vault.
Demer, Emme Foote, Brianna Natoli and Tina Bartelli got to third place in the 4×400 in 4:24.36, with Olivia Creelman, Elizabeth Fawwaz, Makayla Spicer and Patricia Conlan fourth in the 4×800 in 10:20.53.
Danielle Marsell was fifth (29’4 ¾”) and Anna Miller sixth (29 feet) in the shot put, with Marsell adding a fifth-place weight throw of 38’11” as Miller finished 10th. Creelman was sixth in the 1,000 in 3:11.99 and seventh in the 1,500-meter run (5:06.41), while Demer was seventh in the 600 in 1:47.13.
