Alexandria Payne, in full force, pushed the Jamesville-DeWitt girls indoor track and field team to a lopsided victory in Thursday night’s inaugural Salt City Athletic Conference Empire division championships at SRC Arena.
With 185 points, the Red Rams were well clear of runner-up Central Square (105 points) as East Syracuse Minoa finished third with 72 points. And the J-D boys nearly made it a sweep, with 156 points, only to have Central Square get 164 points to finish on top.
Payne would blaze to a time of 8.62 seconds to win the 55-meter hurdles. Minutes later, in the 300-meter dash, Payne rolled to another victory in 42.77 seconds, with Denise Yaeger second in 45.06 seconds and Eva Wisniewski sixth.
To cap off her trio of wins, Payne cleared 5 feet 2 inches in the high jump, beating out ESM’s Jennah Ferrari, who was second with 4’10”. The Rams’ L aeticcia Bazile was fourth, topping 4’8”.
Grace Bridge was victorious in the 1,000-meter run in 3:21.73, with Kathryn Sizing fourth in 3:30.36. In the 600-meter run, Ana Dieroff won in 1:40.12, pulling away from teammate Katie Lutz, who got second place in 1:47.79.
Dieroff and Lutz joined Emma Clardy and Anna Ferrick to win the 4×200 relay in 1:54.45 to Central Square’s 1:54.88. ESM was fourth in 1:59.92.
Moving to the 1,500-meter run, Sophia Vinciguerra, in 4:58.03, pulled away as Madeline Foss was second in 5:22.76 and Abby Palin (5:30.23) got fourth place. Vinciguerra, Palin, Bridge and Abby Leavitt won the 4×800 relay in 10:54.73.
Yaeger earned her own title in the long jump, going 16’3 ½” as Amber Hamernik (15’3”) finished fourth, with Wisniewski taking the pole vault by clearing 7’6”. Marianah Williams claimed the shot put with a toss of 30’6 ½” as no one else cracked the 29-foot mark.
Foss also was second in the 3,000-meter run in 11:00.03, with Ayla Erwin fourth (11:38.70) and Abby Leavitt fifth (11:45.73).
Amanda Semmel, Janna VanVraken, Kyra Schultz and Keely Whipple were second (4:34.71) to Central Square (4:32.74) in the 4×400 relay, where ESM was fourth in 4:47.17. Monica Hernandez-Olivera was third in the 55 hurdles (10.00 seconds), with Ailish McDevitt fifth.
ESM got plenty of points from Mia Montgomery, highlighted by the triple jump, where with a leap of 35’11 ¼” she beat out a field that included Spartans teammate Maria Markert, who was fourth with 29’10 ¾”.
In the long jump, Montgomery went 15’9 ½” to finish second to Yaeger. Montgomery also finished third in the 55-meter dash in 7.77 seconds, with J-D’s Denise Yaeger fourth (7.80) and the Spartans’ Lashae Benjamin in sixth place.
Mackenzie Bourdon, in 9.72 seconds, was second to Payne in the 55 hurdles, and Bourdon got fifth place in the 300 in 47.99 seconds. Erica Garm, clearing 7 feet, was fourth in the pole vault.
ESM also had Kassandra Burr finish third in the 1,000 in 3:29.14 and Aaliya Piquet get sixth place in the 55 hurdles. Burr. Selena Malcolm, Melanie DeFeo and Katherine Jacobs were third in the 4×800 in 11:45.55.
A top-three sweep of the boys 55 sprint had J-D’s David Fikhman edging Joey Armenta, 6.88 seconds to 6.89, with Murad Amarlayev third in 6.91 seconds.
The 300 was similar as Fikhman, in 37.61 seconds, beat out Mike Potamianos (37.76) and Armenta (38.36) in another 1-2-3 Rams effort. Amurlayev would triumph in the long jump, going 20’11 ½” as Donavon Coughlin was third with 18’8” and also got third place in the triple jump with 37’4 ¼” as Liam McFadden (36’9 ¼”) was fourth.
In the 55 hurdles, J-D’s Alex Carbacio, in 8.34 seconds, beat out ESM’s Myles Riggins, who got second place in 8.59 seconds as the Rams’ Jack Underhill finished sixth. Carbacio also had a fourth-place high jump of 5’2” as Everett Moss finished sixth.
J-D won the 4×400 as Armenta, Haberle Conlon, Fidel Martinez and Mike Potamianos posted 3:37.47, more than 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Auburn (3:47.81) as ESM got to fifth place in 3:55.94. Conlan, Amurlayev, Potamianos and Josh Duby claimed the 4×200 in 1:36.09, more than four seconds ahead of the field.
Nick Mannion would go 4:48.22 to beat out Central Square’s Brandon Martin (4:52.01) in the mile. Martinez also took second place in the 600 in 1:30.60, with Parker Cote in sixth place.
Martinez, Mannion, Sam Glisson and Josh Hiliers were second in the 4×800 in 8:55.62, with ESM fifth in 9:29.90. Joe DiDomenico was fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:40.31, with Alan Gao sixth. Kellen Muvihill was fourth in the shot put, heaving it 38’10 ¾” as Ikechukwu Okereke was sixth. Brendan Sharon was third in the pole vault, clearing 9’6”.
ESM’s Nick Berg finished fourth in the mile in 4:59.15 and fourth in the 1,000 in 2:47.49 as J-D’s Sam Glisson was fifth in 2:48.49. The Spartans had Elijah Buck get fifth place in the shot put with a heave of 35’11 ½”, but he improved to fourth place in the weight throw, going 35’7 ¼” as Devin Harrigan (31’7 ¼”) was fifth.
