Once again, area indoor track and field teams made the short trip to SRC Arena, this time to take part in two sessions of last Saturday’s Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational.
In the morning session, West Genesee finished second in the boys event with 87 points, though well back of Baldwinsville’s winning 167 points as the girls Wildcats were third with 74.5 points behind B’ville and Fayetteville-Manlius.
For the WG boys side, Esisas Brumfield edged B’ville’s Zion Hayes, 6.84 seconds to 6.86, to win the 55-meter dash as teammate Dan Gill got fifth place. Then Brumfield added a 300-meter dash victory in 38.35 seconds.
Griffin Dombroske won the triple jump, going 41 feet 2 ¼ inches to pull away from the field, and contended in the long jump, going 19’5 ¾” to finish a quarter-inch behind Corcoran’s Khalil Robinson (19’6”) for the top spot.
The Wildcats were also third in the 4×400 relay in 3:57.87 and third in the 4×800 relay in 9:10.61. Nathan Couse was fourth in the 1,000-meter run. Matt Bartolotta was fifth in the 3,200-meter run, Dan Gill seventh in the 55-meter hurdles and Patrick Trivison eighth in the mile.
Cole Nowark, throwing the shot put 40 feet, got to fourth place.
WG’s girls won the 4×400 as Caitlin Mills, Megan Delia, Kelsey Fox and Abby Kuppinger posted 4:18.02 to beat the field by more than seven seconds. Delia had a third-place triple jump of 33’6” as Fox got fifth place in the long jump and Delia was seventh in the 300.
Then Carly Benson prevailed in the 1,000 in 3:07.01, more than five seconds ahead of F-M’s Palmer Madsen (3:12.31), with Benson also taking second in the 600 in 1:42.15 as Kuppinger was fourth in 1:47.93.
Etana Davis, with a weight throw of 30’11”, rose to third place, also taking sixth place in the shot put. Liz Baker, clearing 4’10” in the high jump, claimed fourth place.
Caitlin Mills was seventh in the 55 sprint and Natalie Buckhout was seventh in the 1,500-meter run, Buckhout running a leg in the 4×800 as WG finished fourth in 11:32.53, but improved to third place in the 4×200 in 1:56.12.
Jordan-Elbridge was fifth in the boys event with 35.5 points and Westhill was sixth with 31.5 points. The Eagles’ Ethan Kinney got to third place in the 300 in 38.85 seconds behind Brumfield, and also was third in the 600 in 1:29.64.
J-E got fourth place in the 4×400 in 3:57.87, with Nate Jennings fourth in the pole vault (9’6”) as WG’s Marcus Body was fifth. Kenny Williams got seventh place in the mile and helped J-E to seventh place in the 4×800.
Westhill’s Evan Ballard contended in the weight throw, his best attempt of 39’4 ½” putting him in second place, one spot ahead of Nowark (37’ ½”) in third place. Adam King tied for seventh in the pole vault.
Tom Howard was third in the 55 sprint in 6.86 seconds, inches behind Brumfield. Howard, Owen Rodgers, Connor Schwartz and Wyatt Lavigne were third in the 4×200 in 1:41.97, with WG sixth in 1:43.46.
Schwartz put up a fourth-place triple jump of 36’7 ½”, with J-E’s Zach Barber (36’6 ¾”) in fifth place. Ben Helfeld finished sixth in the shot put.
On the girls side, J-E’s Theresa Dristle tied for second in the pole vault, clearing 7’6”. Westhill was fourth in the 4×400 in 4:42.11 as Alyssa Holstein took fifth place in the 55 hurdles and Lennah Abraham was fifth in the shot put.
Later, in the afternoon session of the Kirschenheiter meet, Solvay finished fourth on the girls side with 50.5 points, getting two wins from Ashley Bosco as she threw the shot put 36’8” and had a winning weight throw of 35’9”.
The Bearcats’ Erica Bagozzi cleared 7’6” in the pole vault to beat out two Marcellus athletes, Julianna Szczech and Hannah Ryan, who were second and third, respectively. The Mustangs also finished fourth in the 4×400 in 4:42.32.
Isabella Lambert joined in for Solvay as she was second in the triple jump, going 31’7 ¾’. Sabrina Garnett was fourth in the weight throw and Shareese Pierce fifth in the shot put. Kyra Crossett tied for fifth in the high jump.
On the boys side for Marcellus, Joe Riccardi finished third in the 3,200 in 10:19.76, with Ethan Mosure sixth as Riccardi also got seventh place in the mile. Solvay’s Dylan Ewers cleared 5’8” in the high jump for fourth place and was sixth in the 55 sprint.
