It proved quite a week of extremes for the Marcellus boys basketball team.
The Mustangs were shut down last Tuesday in a 57-26 defeat to Chittenango. Held to two points in the first quarter, the Mustangs never recovered as Michael Jarvi had nine points. The Bears’ Zach Falkenburg, with 19 points, passed the 1,000-point career mark.
But when Marcellus looked to avenge a December defeat to rival Skaneateles Friday night, it did so in the most emphatic way possible, dominating from start to finish and punishing the Lakers in a 76-39 romp.
The first half saw the Mustangs sprinting to a 42-18 advantage. And it kept going from there, Luke Ingianni getting 14 points as Grayson Hoag had 13 points, with Sam Grattan and Ben Fedorenko earning 11 points apiece. Connor Wixson had nine points, with Liam Tierney (seven points) and Connor Rogalia (six points) close behind.
Jordan-Elbridge got the rare privilege of hosting Christian Brothers Academy last Tuesday night, and the presence of a long-storied program may have unnerved the Eagles as it lost, 64-38, to the Brothers.
CBA outscored J-E 34-12 over the course of the second and third quarters to get away, led by Nick Valenti’s career-high 15 points and 14 points from SirVocea Dennis. Dakota Holbrook paced the Eagles with 10 points, while Alec Henderson had seven points.
J-E played on Friday and bashed Altmar-Parish-Williamstown 68-30, getting away during a 24-3 second-quarter blitz as all 10 Eagles players that saw action got at least one field goal.
Holbrook got 17 points, including four 3-pointers, while Brandon Wick had 10 points. Jeremiah Sparks and C.J. Green got eight points apiece as Deacon Hill earned seven points.
Solvay won big last Wednesday over Hannibal, 63-29, with each of the Bearcats’ nine players that saw action earning at least one field goal. McKyle Sands led with 11 points, with most of Robby Clark’s 10 points coming from three 3-pointers as Jaimen Bliss, Justin Scott and Kamren Harris each had seven points. Connor Lee finished with six points.
In Friday’s game against Homer, Solvay put up a strong effort, yet lost, 53-46, to the Trojans, who overcame a cold first half and a 20-17 deficit to take charge in the third quarter with a 20-11 push, led by Bryant Quinlan, who finished with 24 points.
The Bearcats could not quite answer, though Elijah Wright had 11 points to lead an attack where Brock Bagozzi (nine points), Clark (eight points) and Scott (seven points) all made contributions.
