In its first match of 2018, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls bowling team sought to knock off Liverpool, the leaders in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division, last Tuesday at Flamingo Bowl.
The Hornets did earn a point, but lost, 2-1, to the Warriors, as Julianna Buonfiglio got a 446 series and 174 high game. Liverpool’s Danielle Maher led her side with a 221 game that led to a 523 series.
John-Luke Buonfiglio starred for the boys Hornets, shooting a three-game total of 717 with a 255 high game. Still, F-M lost, 3-0, to the Warriors, who had a 630 series from Lucas Pobutkiewicz and a 613 series from Deacon Roberson.
Other teams resumed on Wednesday, including East Syracuse Minoa, who took on Fulton at Bowl-Mor Lanes and, in the girls match, pulled out a 2-1 victory over the Red Raiders.
Amelia Carhart led the girls Spartans with a 593 series, while Haley Youker put up a three-game total of 584. Elizabeth D’Agostino added a 553 series, each pin important as Fulton saw Lexi Ingersoll shoot a 577 set, just ahead of Jasmine James (576 series) and Megan Guernsey (559 series, 225 high game).
It was close in the boys match, too, but ESM lost to Fulton by that same 2-1 margin, even though the Spartans’ Ryan MacCombie led all individuals with a 711 series and high game of 266.
Chris Bayly had a 611 series, with Brett Smith getting a 255 game during his 577 set. The Red Raiders prevailed by having Aiden Franco shoot a 688 series, with Bradley Martin (630 series) and Joe Benevidez (598 series) close behind.
Christian Brothers Academy faced Homer, taking a 5-2 defeat in the boys match at Strike-N-Spare Lanes.
Vincent Carno led the Brothers with a 571 series and high game of 215 as Garrett Bowman shot a 223 game in his 503 set. Matt Hurteau, with a 577 series, helped the Trojans prevail as Chris Root (549 series) and Richard Lambrecht (541 series) followed.
The girls match had CBA fall to Homer 7-0 as Juileta Pompo shot a 379 series and Olivia Penoyer added a 358 set, with the Trojans getting a 449 series from Julia Day and a 412 series from Taylor Phillips.
