Three consecutive wins to open the season had given the West Genesee boys swim team some momentum, but the Wildcats could not make it four in a row.
In a meet pushed back 48 hours by winter storms, WG went to Baldwinsville last Friday and could not get a win in any individual race during a 49-40 defeat to the Bees.
Alex Shuron twice was a runner-up, as he edged teammate Zac Zoanetti, 2:21.28 to 2:21.69, in the 200-yard individual medley, but finished behind B’ville’s Nick Schultz (2:12.97) as Shuron also got second place in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.03.
Matt Shoults went 1:57.99 in the 200 freestyle, but that trailed the Bees’ John Licciardello (1:54.86) as Shoults, Tiernan Guy, Cameron Chao and James Raymonda went 1:42.06 in the 200 medley relay, still behind B’ville’s 1:40.31.
Keegan Scharoun was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.58, with Ryan McMahon second in the 500 freestyle in 5:31.87 and Zoanetti second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.40. Zoanetti,
Shuron, Chao and Mike Whitney went 1:55.56 in the 200 medley relay, only to have B’ville win that race in 1:44.53. For the Bees, Licciardello won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, with Ryan Hiltbrand sweeping the 50 and 100 freestyle sprints.
WG would face Syracuse City on Tuesday night, its last meet of 2017.
