Though it gained plenty of points and plenty of top finishes, each of the Liverpool indoor track and field teams would finish second to Baldwinsville during the morning session of last Saturday’s Jack Morse Kickoff Meet at SRC Arena.
In the boys section, it was the Warriors gaining 79 points, just behind the Bees’ total of 84 points. With 72.33 points in the girls meet, Liverpool edged out West Genesee (72 points) but saw B’ville prevail here, too, with 90 points.
Many points for the Liverpool boys team came from field events, including the shot put, where Arthur Bittel threw it 45 feet 6 ½ inches to win the individual title and paired with Jacob Barnes for the team win with throws added up to 83’8” to hold off B’ville’s 83’4 ¾”.
It continued in the weight throw as Bittel won with a throw of 44’ ½” and Antwan Kelly slid into second place with 42’9 ½”.
The Warriors also won the triple jump as Paul Dewan and Michael Nigro had total leaps of 76’6 ¼” to beat the field by nearly five feet. with Nigro fifth (18’2 ¾”) in the long jump.
James Gaffney cleared 12’3” in the pole vault, just behind Weedsport’Steve Gilfus (12’6”), but pairing with Jaime Vong to win the team event by going 20’9” total.
Nazir Murray, who won the individual 55-meter hurdles in 8.22 seconds, paired with Justin Chrisjohn for second place (18.21 seconds) to Skaneateles (17.93 seconds) in the team portion.
Liverpool would win the 4×200 relay as Murray, Chrisjohn, Paul Dewan and Talmari Turner went 1:38 flat to pull away from West Genesee (1:39.41) and the field. Chrisjohn, Murray, Conor Fahy and Amandeep Sekhon were fourth in the 4×400 relay in 3:54.32.
Dewan and Michael Nigro were fourth in the 55-meter dash in 14.72 seconds,. The Warriors also were fourth in the mile relay in 20:09.14,fifth in the distance medley relay in 4:06.68 and eighth in the 4×800 in 9:36.64.
Meanwhile, on the girls side, a 1-2 sweep in the shot put included Trinity Gray tossing it 33’3” and Sarah LaValley throwing it 31’9 ½”. Liverpool also took the high jump as Meghan Milazzo cleared 5’3” and Amina Sinclair topped 4’10”.
Gray and Gaffney pulled the same feat in the weight throw as Gray won with a toss of 36’11 ½” and LaValley claimed second place with 33’3 ¾”. No one else had a throw longer than 26’1”.
Kali Hayes won the individual 55 hurdles, edging B’ville’s Allyson Surowick, 9.57 seconds to 9.67, while Marissa Baskin made her way to first place in the 55 sprint in 7.56 seconds over Fowler’s Kadija Hill-Curtis (7.63 seconds).
Baskin went from there to record a winning long jump of 16’2 ¾”as she and Lorelei Bodenbach were third in the team portion in 28’3 ¼”. Meghan Milazzo was first in the triple jump among individuals with 33’ ½”, teaming with Emma Maturo for third place (55’5 ½”). Lauren Caldwell tied for second in the pole vault.
In the 4×800, Gabby McCarthy, Claudia Brown, Sarah Sedlock and Colleen Tifft went 11:06.71, second to B’ville’s 10:52.49. The Warriors were fifth in the 4×400 in 4:40.61, fifth in the 4×200 in 2:02.70, fifth in the distance medley (4:53.72) and fifth in the 1,500-meter relay in 25:17.97.
