In the quartet of Ryan Hiltbrand, Alex Hiltbrand, John Licciardello and Nick Schultz, the Baldwinsville boys swim team has enough special talent on hand to stay close to better opponents and beat the others.
The Bees proved that again in last Friday’s meet against West Genesee, made up from a snow postponement two days earlier. Winning every single race with points at stake, B’ville knocked off the Wildcats 49-40.
To get things started, Schultz, Licciardello and the Hiltbrand brothers worked together to post a winning time of one minute, 44.53 seconds in the 200-yard medley relay.
Right after that, Licciardello handled two of the longest races on the card, going 1:54.86 to pull away from WG’s Matt Shoults (1:57.99) in the 200 freestyle and then dominating the 500 freestyle, winning in 5:06.09. Licciardello, Bailey Ludden, Alex Hiltbrand and Brandon Formoza would go 3:37.33 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Ryan Hiltbrand specialized in the sprints, where in the 50 freestyle he went 24.40 seconds in a 1-2 effort with Brandon Formoza (25.04 seconds) and also won the 100 freestyle, going 53.51 seconds as Bailey Ludden was second in 55.01 seconds.
Also prevailing twice, Alex Hiltbrand pulled away to win the 100 butterfly in 55.20 seconds and then tore through the 100 backstroke in 58.24 seconds.
Schultz beat the field in the 200 individual medley in 2:12.97 and recorded a time of 1:03.22 in the 100 breaststroke. Then, in the 200 freestyle relay, Schultz, Hiltbrand, Formoza and Ludden went 1:40.31 to the Wildcats’ 1:42.06.
The win improved B’ville’s overall record to 3-2 as it would take on Cicero-North Syracuse Wednesday at Le Moyne College’s pool.
