Through two games, the Skaneateles boys basketball team has already traveled to both its high and low ends, which might prove instructive.
The Lakers welcomed Homer last Tuesday night, nearly a week removed from its season-opening win at Phoenix, and were quickly humbled in a 67-41 defeat to the Trojans.
Homer was off to a 2-0 start, and proved to Skaneateles that it wasn’t a fluke, taking charge in the second quarter, when it outscored the Lakers 17-6 to pull out of an early 13-13 tie.
No matter what it tried, Skaneateles could not put together a spurt of its own. Tommy Reed had 13 points, with Justin McClanahan adding 10 points as Jeremy Castle and Kenny Peterson had five points apiece.
For the Trojans, Kyle Hess gained 21 points, but he had plenty of help as Stephen Walter got 12 points and Bryant Quinlan finished with 11 points.
At least Skaneateles would get six more days to figure things out before Cortland showed up Monday night to start a busy week that also includes Wednesday’s visit from Solvay and a Friday showdown with rival Marcellus.
