With the Bill Middleton Tip-Off Tournament title secure, the Baldwinsville girls basketball team spent the ensuing week working on the rough parts of the game that those two wins on Nov. 24 and 25 had exposed.
Then it was time to turn all that practice into action, which the Bees did last Tuesday night, ending its 10-day layoff with a solid all-around effort against visiting Utica Proctor as it beat the Raiders 54-35.
Defensively, B’ville was consistent and stingy throughout the first half, holding Proctor to 12 total points. But the offense was a bit more elusive, not getting into full gear until the second half, when it outscored the Raiders 34-21.
Claire McAllister led with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Close behind her, Alena Criss had 12 points and four rebounds, with Meaghan Wilson getting eight points and six rebounds.
Katie Pascale managed five assists as Jenna Costello put together six points, five rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals. Namir Davis paced Proctor with 14 points.
B’ville would hit the road on the weekend for a pair of games against Section II opponents, starting on Saturday when it faced Lansingburgh and rolled to a 59-34 victory over the Knights.
The rout didn’t happen right away, with the Bees not leading for good until the second quarter and only getting control when it romped through Lansingburgh 22-8 in the third period.
Again, the production was spread around, Costello getting 12 points and seven rebounds. Pascale had six assists while joining Jordan Roy as they both got 11 points and Roy added four steals. Criss had nine points and Wilson pulled down nine rebounds.
It figured to get tougher on Sunday afternoon when B’ville faced Troy, but with tremendous defense and perfectly balanced scoring, the Bees rolled past the Flying Horses 49-30.
In the second quarter, B’ville began to pull away, outscoring Troy 12-6. Then, and for the rest of the game, the Bees’ pressure forced the Flying Horses into bad shots and turnovers that prevented any sort of comeback.
Meanwhile, Costello led B’ville with nine points, and close behind her McAllister finished with eight points. Roy had seven points as Wilson and Pascale both got six points, with Criss adding five points. Courtney Clute and Hannah Mimas each had four points.
Back home, B’ville would start action in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division, meeting Henninger Thursday night in its only action this week.
