Still perched atop the state Class C rankings, the Christian Brothers Academy girls cross country team used its collective talents to pull away from all challengers during Wednesday’s Onondaga High School League Liberty division championship meet.
At Liverpool’s Long Branch Park, the Brothers engineered a top-three sweep and had five of the seven fastest times as, with 19 points, it was well clear of runner-up Westhill (75 points). Cazenovia was third with 88 points.
Olivia Morganti was impossible to catch, the CBA sophomore blazing to victory in 19 minutes, 52.2 seconds, more than half a minute clear of the field.
Leading the next group, freshman Deja Jones earned second place in a time of 20:28.9, just ahead of sophomore Lea Kyle, who got third place in 20:33.5.
Then junior Bri Pucci finished fifth in 20:38.1 and fellow junior Cory Knox got to seventh place in 20:41.3. Annie Toole finished 37th in 24:08.6 ahead of Emma Mulhern (27:29.9), Julia Medicis (27:33.3) and Ellie Pedone (27:50.8).
In the boys OHSL Liberty race, CBA finished ninth out of 12 sides as Chittenango (95 points) edged Marcellus (96 points) for the top spot.
Sophomores Riley Nash and Zach Medicis both ran well, with Nash taking sixth place in 17:32.6 and Medicis getting seventh place in 17:32.7. Adam Kantor finished 66th in 19:37.5 ahead of Cooper Groat (20:39.0), Zach Kinnally (21:38.8), Jon Laduca (22:10.3) and Michael McMahon (22:20.1).
