For its first meet in October, the Skaneateles girls swim team welcomed perennial power Jamesville-DeWitt to the Community Center pool, where the Lakers did win a trio of individual events amid a 94-84 defeat to the Red Rams.
Grace King twice prevailed, starting with the 200-yard individual medley, where in two minutes, 34.68 seconds she held off J-D’s Emma Galletta (2:34.85) by 0.17 seconds. Then, in the 500 freestyle, King won again, going 5:54.71 to pull away from the field.
In between those races, Gabriella Capozza earned 188.15 points to beat the Rams’ Lauren Saletsky (182.85 points) in the diving competition. Alice Spaulding got a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 1:14.29.
Late in the meet, Ava Prochna posted a winning time of 1:18.12 in the 100 breaststroke, with Lily Buchholz second (1:04.98) to J-D’s Amelia Hesler (1:02.33) in a fast 100 backstroke duel as Hesler also won the 100 butterfly in 1:04.06. Buchholz, King, Prochna and Capozza went 2:03.47 in the 200 medley relay as Spaulding, Prochna, Kyra Cottrill and Kyra Comer swam the 200 freestyle relay in 2:04.21.
After a week to rest and recuperate, Skaneateles would host Christian Brothers Academy on Wednesday night.
