Back from its tests at the Sept. 30 Baldwinsville Fall Swing Tournament, the Cazenovia girls volleyball team remained unblemished against league opposition and, in fact, showed that it was improving.
Homer had taken a set from the Lakers the first time these teams had met in early September. But in the rematch Tuesday night, Cazenovia tore through the first two sets 25-13 and 25-11, only showing some vulnerability in the third set before closing out the sweep 25-22.
Morgan Hodinger augmented her 10 kills with nine digs as Lindsey Lawson also got 10 kills. Ryleigh Tillison added five kills and seven digs as Madison West finished with three kills.
On the Lakers’ back line, Delaney Yorks earned 24 assists, adding four aces and two kills. Lauren Burbidge produced 14 digs and a team-best six aces as Ava Brennan and Hope King each had three digs. Deede Partigianoni led Homer with six kills as Katie Lawrence added six assists.
Just 24 hours later, Cazenovia was back at Buckley Gym, confronting a Skaneateles side it swept on Sept. 19 and, despite its 8-2 record, had just lost in four sets to Solvay the night before.
Again, Cazenovia claimed this Laker duel, only challenged in the third set of a 25-14, 25-17, 25-23 sweep as Yorks did it all, earning 18 assists, four aces, five digs and three kills as Burbidge put away six aces and earned 13 digs.
Hodinger augmented her team-best eight kills with 12 digs and three aces, while Lawson managed six kills. Tillison had five digs, four kills and two aces as West got three blocks and two kills. For Skaneateles, Karah Blair had 11 digs, Cassidy Pitman had seven assists and Jessica Patalino got four aces, three kills and three blocks.
This moved Cazenovia’s record to 11-0, and it enters a quiet stretch of its schedule, with only one match next week against Institute of Technology Central before big back-to-back battles with Marcellus Oct. 17 and Westhill Oct. 19.
