The Baldwinsville girls swim team tried to keep up with visiting West Genesee in last Thursday’s meet, but could not quite get to its first win of the season, losing to the Wildcats by a score of 46-41.
Clare Burke gave the Bees a win in the first individual race of the meet, needing two minutes, 13.05 seconds to edge WG’s Maggie Smith (2:13.90) for the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle.
However, the Wildcats claimed every other individual race while building a 46-22 lead that proved insurmountable. B’ville saw Kali Sacco finish second in the 200 individual medley in 2:32.86, just behind the 2:30.51 of WG’s Allison Putnam.
Grace Skapura took second place in the 100 butterfly in 1:12.30, with Alyse Baker second (1:04.56) to WG’s Miki Riley (1:02.73) in the 100 freestyle. Baker, Skapura, Burke and Emily Spaulding posted 1:58.86 in the 200 freestyle relay, but WG prevailed in 1:53.58.
For WG, Maddie Zapisek won twice, going 27.03 seconds in the 50 freestyle and swimming the 500 freestyle in 5:45.92 to beat Burke’s time of 6:02.50. The Bees’ Kali Sacco covered the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.85 as Spaulding went 1:15.57 in the 100 backstroke.
B’ville visits Oswego on Tuesday night and returns home Thursday night to face Mexico.
