In order to climb back to the top of the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division standings, the Cicero-North Syracuse Blue boys golf team could not afford any further distance between itself and co-leaders Baldwinsville and Fayetteville-Manlius.
First, though, there was the matter of a second head-to-head match between C-NS Blue and C-NS Green that took place last Friday at Northern Pines. The more experienced C-NS Blue side got the best of it, defeating Green 187-210.
Each of the match’s five lowest nine-hole totals belonged to C-NS Blue, starting with the trio of Ryan Sisco, Jake Nardozza and Chase Hurley, all of whom nearly matched par as they shot matching scores of 37. Close behind them, Brendan Villnave and Mike Battaglia each shot 38.
C-NS Green got a 39 from Liam Mussi, with Brian Pellegrino producing a 40. But it dipped from there as Brody Kennedy and Pat Cuddy had matching rounds of 43 and Cullen Scott got a 45.
C-NS Green faced Syracuse last Tuesday and prevailed, 206-213, at Marcellus Country Club. Cuddy finished with a 40 to lead the Northstars, though that trailed Syracuse’s Seth Lee (38) by two shots and matched Jon Kinane’s total.
To pull in front, C-NS Green needed three 41s from Pellegrino, Cullen Scott and Austin Alberici, all of them tied with Syracuse’s Josh Williams. Mussi clinched the Northstars victory with a 43 as Brody Kennedy contributed a 45.
Then C-NS Green had its own match with F-M on Thursday afternoon at Northern Pines, staying fairly respectable against the Hornets, even if it ended in a 190-210 defeat.
Mussi shot a 38, just one shot behind F-M’s duo of Sean Arthur and Adam Butch, while another Hornets golfer, Mike Millimaci, matched Mussi’s 38. C-NS Green could not catch up despite a 42 from Cuddy, a 43 from Kennedy and a 44 from Pellegrino.
Liverpool would host F-M last Monday afternoon, and take a 202-217 defeat to the Hornets, who had the five best individual rounds of the afternoon at Liverpool Country Club.
Brandon Exner, Jacob Fahey and Tyler Leatherwood each shot 43, but that only matched Millimaci and trailed the quartet of Arthur (38), Kyle Gilroy (39), Butch (40) and Sam DiChristina (42). Spencer Baum and Patrick Langlois both finished with 44.
Facing West Genesee on Friday, the Warriors were victimized by Nick Bove’s blistering round in a 193-213 defeat to the Wildcats. Bove managed to shoot a five-under-par 31 at LCC, the lowest round in the Salt City Athletic Conference this fall.
Bove’s round overshadowed a fine effort from Leatherwood, who shot a 37 to lead the Warriors as Baum contributed a 40. Fahey managed a 42, ahead of Dylan Husted (46) and Exner (48), but WG had a 39 from Dan Benetti and 41s from Jack Corcoran, Tim Dipaola and Joe Artini.
