Had the schedule gone as planned, the Baldwinsville track and field teams would battle for CNY Counties Legaue honors at Liverpool, and then go to Cicero-North Syracuse twice, for a weekend invitational meet and then the Section III Class AA championships – all in a seven-day span.
Weather took care of the first part of those plans, though, as the same storms that caused hail damage throughout Central New York last Thursday canceled the CNYCL meet before it even got underway.
At least B’ville had the C-NS Invitational on Saturday to get some last work in before the sectional meet. It was the girls Bees that had the higher finish, taking fifth place with 63.5 points in a 15-team field as Liverpool, with 118 points, won the team title.
Adrianna Straughter, the Bees’ top all-around athlete, proved it in the pentathlon, going 15.66 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, clearing 5 feet 3 ¾ inches in the high jump and going 15 feet 7 ¾ inches in the long jump on her way to a winning total of 2,914 points, well clear of Liverpool’s Meghan Milazzo (2,424 points) in the runner-up spot.
Karen Ekure produced another B’ville win in the 400-meter dash, her time of 1:00.09 more than a second ahead of Phoenix’s Gianna DeRoberts (1:01.54). Anna Miller was second in the shot put, tossing it 32 feet as Shannon Lauko was third, going 29’9”, while in the discus Danielle Marsell was second, heaving it 96’9”,and Jenna Wallace was third with a throw of 93’9”.
Elizabeth Fawwaz needed 7:47.28 to finish third in the 2,000-meter steeplechase. Emily Paul needed 13.22 seconds for sixth place in the 100-meter dash. Fawwaz, Leah Carpenter, Madison Dickter and Justus Holden-Betts were third in the 4×800 relay in 10:41.31.
Holden-Betts would also tie for sixth place in the high jump, clearing 4’6”, as she, along with Anna Demer, Mia Bolton and Tina Bartelli were fourth (4:19.13) in the 4×400 relay. Marina Blasi was eighth in the triple jump, going 32’2” as Jordyn Boutilier (31’11”) finished ninth.
Maya Hewitt cleared 7 feet to tie for seventh in the pole vault. Patricia Conlan got eighth place in the 800-meter run in 2:28.83. Bolton and Carpenter were ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run, with Virginia Forester ninth and Dickter 10th in the 3,000-meter run and Demer 11th in the 400 behind Ekure. B’ville got ninth place in the 4×100 relay.
Meanwhile, in the boys C-NS Invitational, B’ville had 43 points for a sixth-place finish, far from the winning total of 105 points the host Northstars would produce. Still, Kieran Sheridan was victorious in the 400 sprint, going 50.06 seconds to pull away from C-NS’s Ryan Williams (50.64) for the top spot as Garrett Selover finished eighth.
John Kresovich nearly won the mile, his time of 4:37.43 trailing only Fulton’s Isaac Crandall, who won in 4:31.87. Josh Scholten went 1:00.42 in the 400 hurdles to finish second behind Phoenix’s Jacob Marr (59.88 seconds). Tyler Luciano got third place in the long jump with a leap of 20’2 ½”, adding a seventh (39’3”) in the triple jump.
Mike Spicer had a fourth-place discus throw of 125’8”. Evan Biedermann finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:40.78. Jon Formoza was fifth in the 800 in 2:03.62. Nate Jaquint took sixth place in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.20 seconds, with Ian Goodale ninth. Anthony Sellers was 10th in the shot put.
Justin Goodridge finished sixth in the 100-meter dash in 11.49 seconds, with John Arvantides ninth and Anthony Delvecchio 10th in the 3,200-meter run. Evan DaPrano was 11th in the 200. The Bees were eighth in the 4×800 relay and 10th in the 4×400. Jaeho Lee tied for 10th in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet.
