Both inside and outside of Central New York, area track and field teams engaged in a handful of invitational meets and got great results out of them.
West Genesee did double duty, with most of its athletes joining Westhill-Bishop Ludden at Baldwinsville’s John Arcaro Classic as others, such as Megan Delia, went up against elite competition in the Loucks Games in White Plains, where Delia finished third in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of one minute, 5.88 seconds and Emily Young was 10th in the 800-meter run in 2:14.71.
Back at B’ville, younger WG athletes stood out. Eighth-grader Taylor Rech, in the 3,000-meter run, posted 11:14.74 to finish second as fellow eighth-grader Natalie Buckout (12:02.85) took sixth place. Kelsey Fox went 1:01.96 to finish third in the 400-meter dash and, with Talia Burris, Caitlin Mills and Amina Mamabu, got third place in the 4×100 relay in 52.24 seconds.
Ninth-grade Etana Davis had a second-place discus throw of 83 feet 8 inches, while fellow WG freshman Julia Logana, throwing the shot put 31’ 1 ¾”, finished third. Mia Mitchell was sixth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:49.54, while Mills was seventh in the 100-meter dash and Burris shared seventh place in the high jump. Mitchell helped the Wildcats finish seventh in the 4×400 relay.
For Westhill-Ludden, Zoe Fortin rose to third place in the triple jump, going 33’5 ¾”, and was eighth in the long jump. Noelle Coolican took third place in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet 6 inches. Alyssa Holstein was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.49 seconds. Liz Kessler got sixth place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:01.18. Mackenzie Powers was 10th in the 400 hurdles.
In boys action, WG’s Andrew Berry finished second (11.53 seconds) to Watertown’s Austin Eisenmann (11.38) in the 100-meter dash, with Esisas Brumfield fourth in 11.84 seconds to go with a seventh in the 200-meter dash. Sean Byrnes was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:37.21.
Griffin Dombroske, with a triple jump of 41 feet, finished third, and he also took fifth place in the 400 sprint in 53.14 seconds. Nathan Crouse was seventh in the 3,200-meter run and Ryan Allen seventh in the 800-meter run. Damien Panek-Irvine tied for seventh in the high jump.
Westhill-Ludden’s Sean Corbett was victorious in the shot put, heaving it 44’7 ½” to beat East Syracuse Minoa’s Gabe Holloman by one full foot. Corbett also finished eighth in the discus as Ben Eassa, clearing 11 feet, was fourth in the pole vault and added a fourth-place long jump of 19’1 ½”.
Owen Hoyne went 16.38 seconds in the 110 high hurdles, second to ESM’s Isaiah Brooks (15.74). Tom Howard, Evan Watt, Connor Schwartz and Vaughn Crimir were third in the 4×100 relay in 46.10 seconds as Schwartz finished seventh in the triple jump.
Marcellus and Solvay both had their boys teams in the Oneida Invitational, where the Mustangs picked up 36 points to finish fifth in a 22-team field. The Mustangs’ Caleb Wetherell was victorious in the triple jump, going 40’5” to beat the Bearcats’ Lamar Flood, who was second with 39’5”.
Also for Marcellus, Joe Riccardi got second place in the 3,200-meter run in 9:51.16, with Matt Strempel needing 2:03.32 to get third place in the 800-meter run and Sam Stearns clearing 12’6” for third place in the pole vault. Mike Provvidenti took fourth in the 400-meter dash in 52.98 seconds and was 10th in the 200-meter dash.
Wetherell went 19’4” in the long jump for fifth place Andrew Marsh was eighth in the 400 hurdles. Solvay also had Justice Shirley finish ninth in the pentathlon as Dylon Ewers was ninth in the long jump and tied Flood for eighth in the high jump.
Jordan-Elbridge competed Friday in the Weedsport Invitational, where the girls Eagles finished second with 81 points to Hannibal’s winning total of 81 points and the boys were fifth with 47 points as Orchard Park (111 points) prevailed.
Emma Burns gave the J-E girls a win in the 400 sprint in 1:01.88, nearly a full second ahead of the field, while Julie Hines, Abby Fallon, Megan Klock and Madi Hatt roared to victory in the 4×100 in 51.67 seconds as non one else broke the 53-second mark.
Another relay title came in the 4×800, where Burns, Theresa Dristle, Maggie DeJohn and Madi Daly won in 10:43.99, which was nearly 10 seconds clear of runner-up Auburn (10:53.18). In the 1,600 sprint medley relay, Burns, Klock, Hatt and Hines went 4:29.95 to top runner-up Oswego (4:33.62) and the field.
Dristle was second in the 3,000 in 11:24.48 as Fallon was second in the 100 hurdles in 17.48 seconds. Fallon, Lindsay Jackson, Abby Burns and Mia Delap were fourth in the 4×400 in 4:52.59 as Kyra White topped 7 feet for fourth place in the pole vault.
Hines was second in the 200 in 27.40 seconds to Phoenix’s Gianna DeRoberts (27.14), with Klock fourth in 27.94 seconds. DeJohn needed 5:41.42 to take fifth place in the 1,500 as Daly was sixth (2:45.12) and Abby Burns seventh (2:46.53) in the 800. Meagan Jackson was seventh in the 400 hurdles.
Among the J-E boys, Nate Jennings, clearing 10’6”, was second in the pole vault to Weedsport’s Steve Gilfus, who topped 13’6” as Nate Williams was fifth for J-E, clearing 10 feet. Austin Cassick had a third-place discus throw of 107’10”.
Ethan Kinney was fourth in the 200 in 23.48 seconds and fifth in the 100 in 11.91 seconds and, with Logan Kinney, Hugh Schader and Ryan Chiaramonte, got to second place in the 4×800 in 8:55.57.
Marion Quigley was second (16.34 seconds) to Henninger’s Giovanni Vigliotti (15.84) in the 110 hurdles, with Chiaramonte third in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.45. Quigley, Jennings, Williams and Matt Sheldon were fifth (47.08 seconds) in the 4×100. Schader was sixth in the 800 in 2:09.75 and seventh in the mile.
