Now the Cazenovia boys track and field team can add a new title to its lexicon – that of Onondaga High School League Liberty Central division regular-season champions.
The title was locked up at Buckley-Volo Field last Wednesday afternoon, with Cazenovia running away from Skaneateles 100-40 in a Laker clash where first place in the league was at stake and every element, from sprints to distance runs to field events, was well-covered.
Jimmy McPherson’s claimed the two longest individual races of the day. McPherson pulled away to win the mile in a time of four minutes, 50.1 seconds. Moving to the 3,200-meter run, McPherson finished in 10:34.7, more than eight seconds ahead of Skaneateles’ Luke Rathgeb.
Meanwhile, in the two shortest races, Alec Boone came through, starting with a 100-meter dash that he won in 11.6 seconds over Sean McPherson (11.9), and continuing when Boone went 200 meters in 23.9 seconds, with James Pavelchak (24.7 seconds) in second place. Boone added a third title in the long jump, going 19 feet 7 inches.
To cap off his day, Boone joined Pavelchak, Malone Gabor and Sean McPherson to go exactly 3:40 in the 4×400 relay, well clear of Skaneateles (3:47.9) as, earlier in the meet, Pavelchak, McPherson, Justin Gagnon and Elijah Harper beat Skaneateles, 46.5 seconds to 47.2, in the 4×100 relay.
Jack Gabor needed 2:09.7 to beat the field in the 800-meter run as Sean McPherson roared to victory in the 400-meter dash in 54.2 seconds and was second in the 400 hurdles in 1:05.5, with Gagnon third in 1:06.9. Ray Satchwell won the triple jump, going 38’3”, while Dalton Sevier topped 5’4” in the high jump.
