The Baldwinsville boys tennis team managed to do what no other Fayetteville-Manlius opponent could pull off in nine previous matches.
When the Bees’ Alex Shaban beat Max Farber-McEntee 7-5, 6-2, it marked the only time the Hornets had surrendered a point all season. Unfortunately for the Bees, it still meant that F-M prevailed by a 6-1 margin to go with its sweep of B’ville back on April 28.
Antonio Marsallo put up a good battle in first singles, yet still lost to Jeremy Zhang 6-3, 7-5, with Max Funicello running into David Fernando and taking a 6-1, 6-1 defeat.
In doubles, Kyle Robinson and Alex Taylor had a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Richard Wang and Dilan Judge. David Rush and Anthony Pompo fell to Joel Farella nad Nolan Chiles 6-3, 6-2, with Ryan Shirk and Isiah Demoski falling to Ravi and Rohan Dhawan 6-2, 6-2. Scott Ferrari and Sam Damato lost, 6-1, 6-0, to Chris Lansing and Taran Judge.
A day later, B’ville went right back in the win column, going to Cicero-North Syracuse and topping the Northstars 5-2. This time, it was a singles sweep, led by Shaban, who beat Edwin Hirsh 6-1, 6-1 as Marsallo beat Jake Tesfai 6-1, 6-0 and Rush, playing singles, handled Evan Harberek 6-0, 6-2.
A three-set doubles match saw Shirk and Demoski fall to John Barraco and Trey Nordin-Abbey 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, with Damato and Ferrari losing to Connor Millias and Justin Kegebein 6-4, 6-2. However, Funicello and Pompo paired up to beat Ryan House and Jerrod Stranger 6-3, 6-0 as Robinson and Mark Dickson got a 6-3, 6-1 win over Gehrig Sarosey and Josh Matyasik.
Then, in its third match as many days, B’ville took care of Liverpool 6-1. Dickson, playing singles, lost, 7-5, 6-4, to the Warriors’ Caleb Munski, but Marsallo won in straight sets and Shaban did the same, beating Caleb Arnold 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles, Damato and Ferrari made quite a comeback, topping Brandon Davis and Evan Maestri 1-6, 6-0, 6-3. Pompo and Rush handled Ben White and Anthony Puma 6-1, 6-1, with Demoski and Shirk beating Jon Kline and Brayden Cabrey by those same scores. Chris Alfonso and Will Santoro beat Andrew Johnson and Jeff Noll 6-3, 6-1.
