What emerged from last Wednesday’s annual track and field showdown between Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool at Bragman Stadium was a split decision, with the boys Northstars finishing on top 87-54 and the girls Warriors prevailing by a 92-49 margin.
Having just prevailed at the Chittenango Invitational on April 28, the C-NS boys brought that momentum back home and got four individual titles from Joe Williams, who tore through the 110 high hurdles in 14.5 seconds, won the 400-meter hurdles in 58.1 seconds, had a 20-foot long jump and claimed the triple jump by going 42’1”.
Matt Kililan claimed the 100-meter dash in 11.1 seconds and also won the 200-meter dash in 29.9 seconds. In between, Killian helped Conner Hayes, Anthony Pauli and Ryan Massena go 44.6 seconds in the 4×100 relay.
Allen Garnes took the 400-meter dash in 53.1 seconds and paired with Pauli, Zak Kennedy and Ryan Williams to win the 4×400 relay in 3;34.3. Judah Bailey, clearing 5’6”, was victorious in the high jump as Alex Hepel won the pole vault by topping 11’6”.
Liverpool swept the distance races as Nathan Reeves went 2:05.2 in the 800-meter run, Ty Brownlow took the mile in 4:38.6 and Josh Hickmott ran 3,200 meters in 9:51.6. Hickmott, Brownlow, Reeves and Cullen McLaughlin were victorious in the 4×800 relay in 8:53.7.
Also, the Warriors swept the throwing events, seeing Arthur Bittel win the shot put with a toss of 44’8” before Antwan Kelly won the discus, going 119’4”.
Meanwhile, it was Liverpool getting the best of C-NS in the girls meet with a near-sweep of the race schedule, the lone exception coming from the Northstars’ Mia Pestle, who won the 1,500-meter run in 4:55.4 and took the 800 in 2:30.6.
The Warriors were led by Kierra Richardson, who went 12.7 seconds in the 100 sprint and also won the 200 in 26.8 seconds, also anchoring the Warriors’ 4×100 relay side that posted 52.5 seconds to prevail.
Liverpool’s 4×800 relay team, led by Windsor Ardner, Jenna Schultz, Kristina Moore and Vanessa Eberhard, claimed first place in 10:50.4. Schultz followed up by winning the 3,000-meter run in 10:51.2.
Lauren Fradette took the 100-meter hurdles in 16.4 seconds and Natalie Kurz went 1:11.6 in the 400 hurdles, with Sophia Prince taking the 400 sprint in 1:05.2 and helping Richardson, Ardner and Anne Gullo win the 4×400 in 4:22.3.
The field events were split between Liverpool and C-NS. For the Warriors, Kelley Townley cleared 9 feet in the pole vault, with Sarah Lavalley throwing the discus 109’6” and Meghan Milazzo getting a top long jump of 16’9”. The Northstars had Kierrah Butler throw the shot put 35’3” as Liliana Klemanski clear 5 feet in the high jump and Sierra Davis go 32’7 ¼” in the triple jump.
