A combination of scheduling and bad weather gave the Skaneateles girls lacrosse team a full week to rest and recuperate after its dramatic 14-13 overtime victory over Fayetteville-Manlius on April 29.
Thus, when the Lakers, who moved up to no. 5 in the state Class D rankings as rival Marcellus ascended to the top spot, returned to the field last Saturday to face Bishop Ludden-Bishop Grimes, it was ready to set out on its journey through a tough regular-season homestretch.
This game wasn’t tough, though. Skaneateles flattened Ludden-Grimes 19-1, only surrendering one goal in the first half to Rhonee Shea Pal while still tearing through the opposing defense on the way to a 15-1 advantage at the break.
Glad to spread the production around, the Lakers saw Kyla Sears and Riley Brogan each score four times, Sears adding two assists and Brogan landing a single assists, while Mae McGlynn had her own three-goal hat trick and Grace Dower contributed four assists.
Abby Logan and Olivia Navaroli both produced two goals and one assist. Single tallies went to Emma Goodell, Grace Kush and Mary McNeil as Jessica Patalino and Rachel Pinney also earned assists.
With an 8-4 record, the Lakers, after playing LaFayette on Tuesday, have a big showdown Thursday with reigning state Class A champion Christian Brothers Academy at Alibrandi Stadium before a Saturday trip to Long Island to face Mount Sinai (no. 2 in the state in class C), whom it has lost to in the state final four at SUNY-Cortland three of the last four years, twice (2013, 2016) in the title game.
