Even with the calendar turned to the first week of May, stubborn weather problems sabotaged boys and girls golf matches at the start and end of the week, leaving little dry space for matches in the middle.
But the Cazenovia boys team did compete last Wednesday and routed Jordan-Elbridge 220-262, putting together a fine all-around effort amid cold, windy conditions at Millstone Golf Club.
Cody Thorp shot a 40, beating the Eagles’ Max Bondgren (42) by two shots. Then four more Lakers followed as Alex Pezzi and Ryan Modzeleski tied for third with 43, while Geoff Christensen had a 45 and Ryan Mistur got a 49 ahead of J-E’s Cole Melfi (51) and Ryan Melfi (52).
And even with all of Friday’s rain, the Lakers did face Pulaski and won, 211-290, over the Blue Devils, with Thorp dipping under par during his 33 at Cazenovia Country Club. Christensen and Mistur each posted 42 ahead of Caleb Davies, who led Pulaski with a 42.
Off until Thursday, the Cazenovia girls golf team would visit Marcellus and take a 213-237 defeat. Erin Howles shot a 47 and tied the Mustangs’ Mary Colella for low individual round, but no other Lakers golfers shot below 50.
Earlier in the week, Chittenango split a pair of matches, falling last Monday to Marcellus 208-231 as Megan Pierce shot a 51, tied for second with the Mustangs’ Grace Alexander, but behind the 43 posted by Colella. Jennie McIntosh shot a 56 and Rachel Cleary contributed a 57.
Two days later, the Bears improved to 2-6 and beat East Syracuse Minoa’s Orange team 219-248 at Arrowhead.
