Within its own sphere of the OHSL Liberty National division, the Cazenovia boys tennis team is a respected unit and able to keep up with the top sides, such as Christian Brothers Academy.
However, the Lakers, like everyone else that has faced Fayetteville-Manlius this season, has found itself unable to get on the board, as last Wednesday’s non-league match ended with the Hornets claiming a 5-0 decision.
The first singles match did go to three sets, but Nate Romig still fell to Riley Ma 6-0, 3-6, 6-3. Michael Miller rolled past Orson Sproule 6-0, 6-0, with Jeremy Zhang topping Mitch Romig 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles, neither of the matches proved too close. Nick Barna and Liam Flannery fell to Chris Lansing and Taran Judge as Teddy Coughlin and Dan Gavilondo took a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to the brother tandem of Ravi and Rohan Dhawan.
All of the Lakers’ other matches got rained out, including contests against Pulaski and Skaneateles that will have to get made up alongside a string of matches this week – two against Westhill, one each against CBA and Marcellus.
